Lonestar, your cats are lazy as hell. They can't even be bothered to chase the laser point.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

When cats are spayed or neutered, they get bigger.

Hell, the one that was chasing the laser pointer once weighed in at 25lbs, now he's somewhere aorund 17.

(by the way, both these cats are 13-14 years of age)

Love cats, especially in pairs. Lonestar, yours look great for their age. NYE, yours are real darlings too.

We have kept the last 4 sets indoors at all times without noticeable harm to them or us.

                Or ferrets for that matter.

I don't think keeping them in strictly is harmful. I think they get more enjoyment out of life if they can go outside.

That depends on what kind of cats they are. Norwegian cats aren't good out of doors (bizarrely, given their name), according to my mate who has a couple of them. (sorry, can't remember the exact breed).

I take my boy and his wife out on the fenced patio. They never are alone, and the others have never been out.

Sometimes coyotes and bobcats have been spotted. There was a half a neighbor's cat in my mother's back yard.

                            How did that go?

                            ...

So anyways, I hit on what I think is a good idea. The cats kept bringing home lengths of silicone stripping, or hand-bag straps, or anything string-like. I'd come out into the yard and there would be a new addition to their hand-picked toy collection.

I am a little leary of letting them chomp on anything synthetic/plastic, and couldn't think silicone would do their digestion any good either. So, I dropped by a saddlery shop and asked if they had any scraps of rawhide. They didn't, but they did have some excellent strings of leather. They are quite wide (about a quarter inch or 6-10mm) and thick enough to last yet they are still stringy. The cats love them and have stopped bringing home scraps of plastic, etc.

Question is, is tanned leather a bad thing for kitty? They chomp on it a bit after 'catching' it, but not that much; and it's thick enough that they are not biting through or otherwise shredding it. I'd imagine it is safe, or half the dogs of the world would not live long based on shoe consumption, but still thought I would ask in case anyone knows better.

We didn't get the cat. We live in a condo and another of her cousins has a big acreage and wanted a cat, so they won out. Makes sense.

Too bad. Maybe when you move to someplace more permanent.
