I might remember wrong, but median is the middle of the line of numbers you get if you place all answers after each other, ordered by low to high? 39 answers right now. Middle is 19.5, which means the median is the average of answer number 19 and 20, right?

I checked around. It turns out I was remembering almost correct. It's only an average if it's an even number, not uneven as I though. So the median is the number 19. Next time, act like an adult and just correct my wrong.

Question: Is medians often used in surverys like this? In school, get got told "this is what median is, this is what an average is." But we never used median in maths, only averages.

The mean is around 10. The median is 5.

If you have a sample, say 1,2,5,7,8 the median is 5.

I now see it at 39 votes and the median is 4. Obviosly the average is much higher but it is actually impossible to calculate on the provided data-- (assume for a moment that one of the responsders is Wilt Chamberlin)
