  • No, ignorance is much less stressful.

As it exists now, why not just ignore the required health plan until needed? If something major comes up, pay the fine and get insurance, since pre-existing condition isn't a factor. A person still comes out ahead.

I will consider myself PWND just as soon as you tell me how this thing will pay for itself, or better yet result in a net gain. And not some nebulous BS about stimulating the economy that may or may not come true, may vary in effect and can't even be proven; show me a hard source of Federal revenue. Barring that, or evidence that rising health-care costs will cause the collapse of our civilization, I know full well that this is an imprudent use of our tax--or possibly "Chinese-held treasury bill," for as long as they'll keep buying--dollars. Its actual efficacy is irrelevant.

And on the topic of its actual efficacy, it doesn't sound that great in my ignorant opinion. Not being able to deny preexisting conditions sounds wonderful until you realize how unbelievably expensive some conditions are. Where the hell are insurance companies going to get the money from?

      • I think it sucks. There are many reasons why it sucks. I'm not going to debate it with the know-it-alls here though.

        • Sloww, state your opinion or shut up. You're such a coward, you always hide behind insults like these.

The fact is that you aren't going to debate because you're too stupid to.

              • Speaker Pelosi says, “But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy.”
                This makes sense.

Given our already-atrocious national debt, we should not be spending large sums of money on anything less than that. We need to stop running from the freight train very soon--we should have stopped running a decade ago, if not before--and adding yet more entitlements is just throwing coal in the boiler. I don't really understand the ins and outs of the health care industry, but I don't need to.
I really like this "freight train" comparison. The US is in dire problems, so what do we do - yeah, we throw off all the sick people that can't afford to pay the docs and the nessacary treatment so we can protect the american way of life.

Yeah, that is really the way to build a sound, healthy and wealthy society.

                  • I've recently heard that if watergate hadn't happened, then Nixon would have made exactly the same. I don't know if this rumor has any validity - can some of you yanks please enlighten me on this ?

                        • The problem with this bill is it leaves intact the problem with American health care, private insurance companies. One of the main reasons American manufacturing (which is still quite considerable) has largely taken a hike out of the country is that it cannot afford to pay health insurance. One sector of the capitalist class is bleeding the rest of the class dry, and the Feds just made it mandatory.

Meanwhile, the bill doesn't actually help those of us who need health care. Sure, insurance companies can't deny us care, or they'll get fined ... $100 a day. So if your health care is more than $36,500 a year, guess what?

                          • I'm wondering if the bill would have sucked less if the Republicans hadn't filibustered. Then maybe the Democrats would have passed some real reform.
