The Republicans had nothing to do with this piece of **** reform. None of them voted for it.
You are right, this failure is all the Democrats fault.

I'm not sold on that idea. Wouldn't it hamper the power of states to regulate health insurance?

That's a bit disingenuous, isn't it Drake? No, none of them voted for it, but the bill was endlessly modified and amended in stupid, vain attempts to get them to vote for it.

We have both parties to thank for this **** sandwich.

That doesn't follow, at least from where I'm standing. Suppose Stalin says to Hitler, "Hey, wanna help me take over the world?" Hitler says no, so Stalin sweetens the pot: "Hey, if you'll help me with my plans of world domination, I'll kill a bunch of Jews--in addition to random people I was already going to kill--to incorporate your ideology too, okay?" Hitler still refuses, so Stalin goes on his rampage solo, with the Jew-murders included just for the hell of it. Granted, Hitler is still a bad person, but given his non-involvement is any part of this specific incident really his fault?

          • Not an exact analogy; if Hitler had said, "no, you have to kill a bunch of Jews too, and then I'll consider it," that would be more in line.

            Also, excellent Godwinization. Kudos.

No, it wasn't; it was modified and amended in a stupid and successful attempt to get moderate Dems to vote for it. The Dems never even made a serious attempt to win broad bipartisan support from the Republicans, and the few Republicans they did try to win over (Snowe, Collins, ?) were firmly against the bill as far back as December. All the sleazy deal making that went down this year was purely a Democratic party affair.

We have both parties to thank for this **** sandwich.

You can't seriously blame the GOP when every single Republican member of Congress voted against the bill, can you? Please don't turn into Oerdin on me...

              • They spent all of last ****ing year trying to get GOP support; there is plenty of residue from that period remaining in the bill.

I'm not saying that the Democrats aren't to blame. Clearly, they get the lion's share for this abomination. But with a bill like this, there is plenty of blame to go around.

No, there isn't. This is literally a solely Democratic bill.

                  • As I said, they deserve the lion's share of the blame. But the GOP gets some blame as well; you and I may not agree on the reasons why, but you can at least admit they failed to prevent its passage.

I didn't blame just Bush and the GOP for the cluster**** of 2001-2008, you know.

Your position is ridiculous. Every single Republican would've had to have opposed healthcare reform every step of the way for you not to blame the GOP for this.

In the real world, this bill was opposed by the Republicans about as staunchly as any bill ever.

but you can at least admit they failed to prevent its passage.

They didn't have enough votes to stop it.

You should in the cases where the Dems were united in their opposition.

The GOP put themselves into this position with the past decade of douchebaggery and asshattery.

Well, if you're blaming Bush and the 2000-2006 Congressional GOP for the rise to power of Obama and Pelosi (which led to this POS bill), I'm totally with you on that. I just don't think the Republican in Congress now can be blamed, as they did pretty much everything they could to stop this reform.

Ehhh. I can see your point. But they got a lot of what they wanted, and still voted against it. Ultimately, yes, the blame is on the Dems.

                              • The Dems weren't united. Dozens of Dems voted against healthcare reform in the House and it took a lot of payoffs to get the necessary Democratic votes in the House and Senate.
