    • Speaker Pelosi says, “But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy.”
      She actually said this?

Yes, because the world needs more needless pain and suffering.

Seriously. Slow is ****ing arguing and throwing insults against someone on HIS OWN SIDE (Elok). I mean really, WTF?!

I know. I'm just messing with him because he's being so silly.

Actually, to give Slowwy fair benefit of the doubt, his "not going to debate this with know-it-alls" may have been directed to others in this thread. He may not have been directing the insult to Elok, but his post happens to immediately follow Elok's.

                  • To be fair, Sloww couldn't debate this with just about anyone in this thread.

Yeah, that is really the way to build a sound, healthy and wealthy society.
Who's "throwing them off," BC? I merely advocate that any attempts to help them be made with real money and not Uncle Wu's Friendly Loans. The moment we cure our current fiscal dysentery, I'll be all for it. If we don't...I've said something like this before, I know, but what's the quality of health care in Zimbabwe?

                        • If the US runs out of money, healthcare will be the very least of our problems.

I would not be surprised if a large number of businesses stop providing healthcare entirely and just pay the fine. The fine for just one uninsured worker is 2000 dollars per worker--NOT 2000 dollars per UNINSURED worker. So we'll see a lot of companies that either give everyone healthcare or no one healthcare. I suspect large companies will react to this in two ways: 1) paying the fine, and 2) offsetting the massive increase in the cost of labor by moving operations overseas.

What I'm hoping is that these corporations go to the government and say, hey, if you don't repeal this, we'll be forced to cut this many thousands of jobs and move some operations overseas in order to stay in business. Hopefully it'll scare congress into a last minute repeal. If I recall correctly, something similar happened in '88 or '87.

No. You said they have to make a profit. And you also implied that they have to pay their executives millions of dollars and spend a bunch of money on retreats and ****. They don't have to do any of that to stay in business.

Given our already-atrocious national debt, we should not be spending large sums of money on anything less than that. We need to stop running from the freight train very soon--we should have stopped running a decade ago, if not before--and adding yet more entitlements is just throwing coal in the boiler. I don't really understand the ins and outs of the health care industry, but I don't need to.
The problem is the cost of healthcare. It needs to be lower. We can't go on like this. Either we go more into debt of we pay more for healthcare. It's just a matter of the account you use.

And so will your military budget and tax cuts for the rich.
