Besides that's basically just people are appealing job cuts and they continue to get paid until the job cut is finalized so really we're only talking about a handful of people for a short time each year.
    Short time each year?
For seven years, the Los Angeles Unified School District has paid Matthew Kim a teaching salary of up to $68,000 per year, plus benefits.
Yes, I'm saying that is not at all emblematic and is in fact an isolated and extreme example, no doubt the most extreme they could find, no doubt the case also has some sort of strange extenuating circumstance which they failed to mention like the case is still in active litigation and that the rules say he can't be fired until the case is decided or something. It would not be at all typical of how things normally happen.

A lot of times the reason private schools do better is simply because 1) parents are paying for it directly so they make sure kids are doing what they're supposed to (like doing homework) and 2) if the kid is a slow learner or a problem case then they just kick him out thus raising test scores and burdening the public school system with him.

California needs to scrap its pension system. In the early 2000s California redesigned their pension system to share the wealth of their booming revenue returns with there retiring government workers. Being retarded, they didn't seem to realize your average pensioner draws that pay for 20+ years and abnormally large revenue boom years are abberations and not long term realities.

There are California pensioners drawing near 100% of their working pay. Some get 500K a year. There are 5115 pensioners making over 100K, thats at least half a billion right there.

I heard this on NPR, but this link will get you to the data

It varies school district to school district. Yes, some rich ones have gotten the number down (especially for the elementary schools) but most are much larger. Check out high schools in LA unified.

          State-wide the ratio is 21.3

LA County as a whole is 21.4

          LA Unified is 20.5

I call bull**** on your numbers.

Trying to teach 40 kids in a classroom is insane!
Having a student/pupil ratio of 20 is just plain nuts. Ours is close to 30 up here. No wonder you guys are bankrupt. You've massively overfunded education.

They also have a better curriculum, they have better teachers, and they have better administration for the most part.

if the kid is a slow learner or a problem case then they just kick him out thus raising test scores and burdening the public school system with him.
Unlike in the public system, where he gets the **** kicked out of him. That's going to raise his scores!

The Pupil-Teacher Ratio is enrollment divided by the number of full-time equivalent teachers. Because some teachers are not assigned to a classroom, the Pupil-Teacher Ratio is usually smaller than the average class size.

No slow learners were ever kicked out of our grammer school. We had two classes per grade. One for the quicker kids and one for the slower kids. (the exception being twins since they usually split them up) There were no entry exams, all kids were taken regardless of how dumb there were. After you paid for two kids the rest were free. (another way the catholic church encouraged larger families)

And as i stated, the catholic families were larger so the parents had to spread themselves thinner.
It was quite a competitive school district where all parents pushed their kids so there was no real difference on that side. It included some of the top HS in the state.

Just curious, but does that include disabled kids? (You can choose your definition of 'disabled', I understand that the definition used in schools is a bit askew.)

                      Education expert Mr. Ben Kenobi.

How long have you been a teacher? How much have you been comparing student/pupil ratio statistics?

If they could afford it small classes obviously yeild better results, however California can not afford it. 100% pension salaries are also nice, but that is besides the point.

No child was ever turned down to my knowledge. Granted this was many years ago when we didn't even use the term disabled. The were either called handicapped or retards. J/K

We had a couple of mentally challanged kids and a few legally blind kids, but that was about it. The percentage was probably no different than the public schools.

BUt the main point being that a feeble 80 year old nun with a ruler could keep order in a classroom with 50+ kids in it. How was that possible? SHe scared the crap out of us.

So California can solve its problems by enlarging class sizes and dressing teachers in habits? Won't that just distract the Japanese students?

I never trusted the Japanese any way. To many dickgirl comics and tentacle rape scenes to ever trust the Japanese.
