How long have you been a teacher?
It has nothing to do with teaching, and everything to do with the history of education. 30 has been the standard for a very long time.

How much have you been comparing student/pupil ratio statistics?
How long have I been studying them? Spent 6 credits of my degree on this one topic.

I might be in favor of corporal punishment. That, or no longer being allowed in the class room.

The Pupil-Teacher Ratio is enrollment divided by the number of full-time equivalent teachers. Because some teachers are not assigned to a classroom, the Pupil-Teacher Ratio is usually smaller than the average class size.
I don't see how this helps your argument.

              And Your parents supported it.
I don't know how things are in California, but I guess they're not too different from the testimonies I hear from teachers friends here.

One of the problem with having authority on children comes from the parents. The early problem children tend to have very protective parents, that consider their children are right all the time. Teachers are often with conflicts with parents over a bad mark or a bad appreciation. You can imagine how inclined the child is in those situations...

Before thinking about beating children, perhaps it would be a good idea to think about what constitutes a teacher's authority in the first place

Corporal punishment was allowed in public schools. I don't know about the poof school that rah went to though.

Well, this post certainly helps my argument that I shouldn't have bothered. Does that count?

Paying teachers who aren't assigned classrooms is an argument against current staffing levels.
