  • The biggest self of self?

"And the biggest self of self is, indeed, self."

Apparently disgraced gov Mark Sanford uttered those words during a long, obtuse, and frankly weird press conference/confession that, in retrospect, I am quite sorry to have missed. I think this is possibly the coolest flaky politician quote since Kucinich's "matter and energy become spirit" hooey. The question is, what the hell does it mean?

Seems he went into this long schpiel about God's laws being meant to protect us from ourselves, so presumptively this fit into that whole section. But I can't make any semantic sense, or anything like semantic sense, out of it. Colorless green ideas dream furiously! What do you suppose he was trying to say?

And, more importantly, why are people always riding Obama for using a teleprompter? The alternative is crap like this!

      That doesn't top:

“A proof is a proof. What kind of a proof? It's a proof. A proof is a proof. And when you have a good proof, it's because it's proven.”
"The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

Those are all good quotes, oblivious politicians. But I still like these:
"On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes -- and I see many of them in the audience here today -- our sense of patriotism is particularly strong."
"I've now been in 57 states -- I think one left to."
"My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it."

Such a great speaker...not much of a thinker, but he can get the words to come out without the thinking part so its ok.

Thinking a thought is like thinking about thinking. You thought you might think about something, but actually the thought was merely thinking to be thought of....sounds close enough to what some P.O.S.-itician would say
"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the Blood of Patriots and tyrants" Thomas Jefferson
"I can merely plead that I'm in the presence of a superior being."- KrazyHorse

Crap like that is far more entertaining than sanitized teleprompter fare.

I kind of likey the ole Bushisms. One of my favourites:

Asked about Indian tribal sovereignty issues, President Bush so fully flubbed his response that journalists in the room began laughing at him.

The stuff to watch out for is the dross given a shine- like gilded turds.

Empty nonsense about it being 'morning again in America' and 'I have spoken of a thousand points of light...' .

Rumsfeld was expressing a fairly sophisticated concept. Or at least more sophisticated than what normally passes out of Washington.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
