 New Hampshire is going galt. I mean ghey.

 Ok, a simple question about the stats I posted

 * 85% had experienced depression

 * 45% periods of anxiety

 * 70% had attempted suicide, of the remainder (6) three had contemplated it. This included a total of 41 attempts;

 * 55% abused themselves in other ways, e.g. cutting up with razor blades, banging fist against the wall, putting fist through window, biting chunks out of self, throwing self against wall/down stairs

 Do you think the cause is their sexual preference or maybe might be influenced by persecution my others?It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

 I believe that society has an influence, sure.

 But I think there are other factors too.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

 We know that gay people who are abused have higher substance abuse rates then those who are not abused.The study says that there's a higher rate of partner abuse in homosexual couples, and that the abused have higher substance abuse rates.

 We also know that a higher percentage of gay people suffer partner abuse then straight people.

 Therefore, all else being equal, we can say that gay people have a higher substance abuse rate, which is confirmed by the other study. The two studies corroborate one another.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

 Ok, so if you believe society has an influence, that means that society probably has an influence on the amount they drink and abuse themselves. Do you agree with that?It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

 Drake:
 There are studies showing that homosexuals have experienced violence and harassment due to their orientation, and that many teens drop out of high school because of said harassment.Do you have any evidence to support this causal argument?

 I'll look for the studies after work.B♭3

 I don't how the **** one's sexual orientation determines any liklihood of substance abuse.

 I would think belonging to a maligned, ostracized, vilified minority group of any kind is more likely to determine liklihood of substance abuse.A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

 That does not mean, however, that homosexuality is the cause, which is what you seek to imply.B♭3

 Anyway:
 Do you not get the doublethink inherent in those two sentences?Where did I say anything about less value? I said they are downright dangerous for the practicioners.The ones who automatically discount homosexual relationships as meaning less because they're not predicated around a gender binary.B♭3

 Yes, completely. I've never been opposed to saying that society does play an influence. I do have a problem when it is considered the only factor responsible.Ok, so if you believe society has an influence, that means that society probably has an influence on the amount they drink and abuse themselves. Do you agree with that?

 I could see it being about a 10 percent increase, out of about 100-200 percent.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

 It's like saying walking along an elevated train track is a less valuable activity then riding the train. The issue isn't really value, but safety.Do you not get the doublethink inherent in those two sentences?Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

 It's simple. Christianity influences society to be hostile towards gays, a hostile society and rejection drives people to various vices as coping mechanisms.Originally posted by MrFun View PostI don't how the **** one's sexual orientation determines any liklihood of substance abuse.

 It's basic psychology."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

 Ok, so you agree that it is part of the increase that your earlier statistics showed. But you can't scientifically quantify the amount of the increase, it's just your opinion. If that is the case, you can't use those statistics to show anything since you can't analyze them properly.Originally posted by Ben Kenobi View PostYes, completely.
