I had the same problem. The stock Core2 heatsink is a POS.

Any difference between the Core2 and Core2Q heatsink, or are they the same thing?

I had no issue the one time I installed a Intel-stock Core2 HSF...then again, I'm a manly man who goes to the gym.

The quads usually have a copper slug that the duals don't always get.

So, behind the motherboard there was a piece of plastic that extended the screwhole (actually, I think it's the only part that was grooved in the first place). I didn't find it until I'd disassembled the computer and removed the motherboard.

How the heatsink is supposed to go in:

                How the system actually was:

It's kind of hard the second way.

System is fixed now and seems to be working fine, thank god.

That's what the screws attached to.

                    Obviously.

I had assumed the holes in the motherboard were grooved.

                      Not obvious enough, it seems.
