It's a matter of opinion. If it was all that great there would be more people.

Quality of treatment in the United States, is by leaps and bounds, better then the treatment received in Canada. I hope to God, that Canadians wake up one day, and ditch left wing medicine.

Sorry to hear about your Mom's experience, TMM.

I figure that horror story, or something else horrifying, could happen anywhere, unfortunately.

I've read many glowing accounts of healthcare in Canada, the UK, Australia... and I've also read condemnations like this one. They don't help clear up which way is better. I still think we'd be better off with a universal healthcare system.

I cant obtain the original source, but the tables you've posted are 'questionable' IMO without further clarification. For example, the data appears to be patient perceptions of their care (or lack of it) rather than actual measured differences in care. In addition, the interpretation of the P values are rather suspect to me given the huge N (which appears to be an 'estimate' where the population of the US is 205 million).

                  @Aeson:
First we have to conceptually make a division between the provision of health care and how is health care is financed.

There is a broad consensus that a single paying systems is better than a multiple paying systems. Even the right wing libertarian in Canada (Eg: Institut Économique de Montréal) don't propose a multiple payer systems.

But the debates is mainly about how health care are given to people. And which is better between lucative/non lucative, private/non private hospitals? Administrative decentralization or Administrative centralization? Etc...

I skimmed it, but they dont give an explanation for their estimated population discrepancies. Nontheless, I think the point is somewhat moot since they have a decently sized sample population that they extrapolate from and the results are not unexpected:

Insured americans and Canadians report similar satisfaction with their healthcare except that Canadians are dissatisfied with wait times.

Uninsured Americans are not satisfied with their care.

Unfortunately, it says nothing about the quality of care for uninsured Americans using Medicare compared to Canadians.

It's Canada, you think they are going to buy ice machines? It's cheaper to get people to shovel snow in from outside and get the french people from Quebec to compact the snow into ice in big vats, using the skillz thir forebears taught them to make wine.
In the Summer sure. In the winter, the ice is as hard as rock, so we need to import ice machines.

Thanks for the PM, and your sentiments, I tried to reply but your box was full.

The short answer is no, unless I can get permission.
Ok, if you can get permission, let me know, and I'll go from there.

I don't think it really matters though. Here in Toronto, I was involved in a car accident some time ago as a passenger, taken to a hospital with a few cuts...by my standards and by all standards that hospitals in this country should go by, the conditions were unsanitary.

By the way, in Kamloops and area, from what I understand, there should actually be a number of hospitals or medical centres. Do you know which one it was?
