Because you mostly use them for things such as intel and recon that is on theater level or below, and for combat support, which should be directed by the local commanders, who run the show locally.
Perhaps you've heard of this wonderful invention. It's called a telephone.
Any country that could afford to build an airforce to compete with ours for air superiority can also build strategic nuclear weapons, making the whole question moot.

Attack subs are capital assets. They create sea control. And we don't need 100 of them either. but they are good bang for the buck. Plusd they do sewars of moscow style missions.

Yes, because America and China are definitely going to escalate to nuclear weapons in a conflict over Taiwan.

Air superiority fighters are important assets. They control the skies.
The F-22 is the aerial equivalent of the Sea Wolf. And the F-35 is the equivalent of the Virginia-class, ie. a less capable replacement that was supposed to be significantly cheaper but didn't actually turn out that way.
Fighter planes are like attack subs; they don't do dick until a real war breaks out. Then you can't have enough of 'em...
Or use F18s
The F-18 sucks. The USN should've navalized the F-16, but they have a stick up their ass about only flying two-engine planes.
Did you DanS?
And F16 is for midgets that like to do turns. F18 can drop more bombs and heas better legs. Oh...and Navalize away. We;ll deal with it, when it has salt corrosion resistance, heavier landing gear, etc. etc. When you get done it won't be an F16. The only joint figheters that work are when the Aiur Force uses ours. We can't use theirs. Look at the fricking FB111

All the real subs are named after fish...we don't need a Virginia or a Sea Wolf. It's a total waste of money. They were decomissioning Sturgeons and even LAs early.
I don't think joint fighters work very well in general, which is another reason to worry about the F-35. I'd like to blame it on the Navy to piss you off, but it's more the fault of the Marines and their dumbass insistence on VTOL. Why do they even let the Marines have their own planes?

They don't have their own artillery. And they like having integrated fighting package (MAFTF) that can handle joint ops within a small sized and more cohesive structure. That said, their air wing has not been crucial in general.
If they really insist on vertical takeoff, then make them use helicopters like the Army. Otherwise, bring back the A-10. I'd even take the funds for it out of the Air Force's budget, to punish them for dropping the best plane in the US inventory in the first place.
