MILWAUKEE - One southern Wisconsin homeowner is probably not in love with the Oscar Mayer wiener.
The famed hot dog's iconic Wienermobile crashed Friday into the deck and garage of a home in Mount Pleasant, about 35 miles south of Milwaukee, when the driver tried to turn the giant hot dog on wheels around in the driveway, police said.
The 22-year-old driver thought she was moving in reverse, but actually went forward and crashed into the home, Mount Pleasant Police Chief Tim Zarzecki said. No one was home and neither the driver nor a passenger was injured.
Both the home and vehicle suffered moderate damage, Zarzecki said. No citations were immediately issued.
Responding officers weren't initially told what kind of vehicle was involved.
"It was a little bit of a surprise when they arrived," Zarzecki said.
"So they were, I'm sure, somewhat humored by the incident but their first response was wanting to make sure everyone was OK," he added.
Police had not been able to speak to the homeowner as of Friday evening and were not whether he or she would first hear about the incident from news reports.
Oscar Mayer spokeswoman Sydney Lindner apologized for any inconvenience to the homeowner and said insurance would cover the damage. The company has six Wienermobiles nationwide, she said.
"We expect to be back on the hot dog highways spreading miles of smiles in no time," she said.
Neighbor Tom McCauley, 66, was sitting in his living room when he saw the long vehicle drive by. He figured it had taken a wrong turn on the dead-end street. He later walked over and took photos of the crash and said the Wienermobile's windshield was cracked, the side mirror was hanging and there was some front end damage.
"I'm sure we'll be talking about this for a while," he said.
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
