Uh... Zkrib? This proposed budget is the 2010 budget.

        • Isn't health care supposed to be tackled later with his comprehensive health plan?

~2/3 of the funding is in the budget.

And weren't energy investments in the surplus?

The stimulus? Yeah. We happen to need a lot of them.

The budget bill has far more than simply more investments in health care and energy in it.

There's also funding for education and banks. Reasonably important long term investments as well. Those are the major items.

Where are you getting this info? Changes to some of these departments decrease the deficit. Agriculture, Treasury, and Interior, for example.

                  Go to S-5.

                        • I think the Dem/liberal umbrage at Rush (and others) is more a reaction to the memory of being called traitors for any questioning of Bush's initiatives, particularly post-911.

                          It's just duplicitous and disingenuous.

Much like how the CPAC reviling of Bush today looks after the rapturous "4 more years" chanting at his appearance in 2008.

                            I meant S-6.

Those numbers are for only the next year. A lot of spending cuts/tax hikes get into effect a year or two later. For example, the farm subsidy cut gradually kicks in over a couple years. You should be looking at either the 5 or 10 year total.

                            • Knowing what I do about the government (I do work for it after all), I tend to be very skeptical when someone tells me there will be "spending cuts" in the budgets of government agencies (having their budgets only go up by less than inflation seems to be a mess). So, I don't buy it. As for the invariable tax hikes on the top 2%, even by the President's rosy projections that just reduces the deficit in half. What happens to fully close that gap, say, in a potential second term?

                              • You can tax the middle-class all you want once they've elected you to your second term.
