Missiles kill 7 in NW Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) - Missiles fired from a suspected U.S. spy plane killed seven people Friday on the Pakistan side of the Afghan border, a lawless region where al-Qaida militants are known to hide out, officials said.
The strike was the first on Pakistani territory since the inauguration of President Barrack Obama.

Pakistani leaders had expressed hope Obama would halt the attacks, more than 30 of which have been launched since the middle of last year, reportedly killing several senior militants.

The pro-U.S. government routinely protests them as a violation of the country's sovereignty, but most observers speculate it has an unwritten agreement allowing them to take place.

One drone fired three missiles into the village of Zharki in North Waziristan, hitting two buildings, the intelligence officials said on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

At least seven people were killed, but there identities were not immediately known.

The United States rarely acknowledges firing the missiles, which are mostly fired from drones believed launched from neighboring Afghanistan.

Pakistan's air force is not known to possess drones. NATO officers in Afghanistan say they respect Pakistani sovereignty.
Lets watch all the flip flops on how using airstikes in Pakistan is now a good idea

not surprised that some people are into medieval methods...

I am pretty certain if US interrogators got me, NGR, VJ or any other person they would get us to confess to personally setting up all the bombs and detonating the twin towers while simultaneously executing a hijack and surviving the impact if it was in their interests. Torture is THAT effective.

All that besides of "moral" obligations towards other humans, even if they are enemies. Some people have really low sense of responsibility, and enjoy the "lovely" consumerism we have here in the west, while at the same time advocating torture in order to feel safer. Well if they outnumber the rest who think, repeat of dark ages is surely on the cards.

Luckily for all of us this time around the more sensible 50% in US prevailed, and it seems we will be able to enjoy 4 years of some more humane policies and progress...

Why would that be a good idea?

Or why did Obama not stop them alreay? I think he is really overpreforming in the three days in the office he has been in so far... so let's give him some time to see how he fares for some other stuff... but the start is surprisingly bold.

He's argued for invading the country before where would the flip flop be.

I am quite certain that CENTCOM lets the President know before they attack Pakistan. I am glad he has continued the attacks, I am curious if he will get the same flak from the same people Bush did.

He's argued for invading the country before where would the flip flop be.
I am not talking about Obama, but rather his hordes of worshipers who are the same people constantly critisizing Bush over such attacks.

You saw all that when he opined about invading Pakistan during the Dem primary. I can even provide articles if you wish when I get home from work. Or do you mean here in specific?

Oh I know, but now he is the President vice a candidate. That was mostly to drag him down in relation to Clinton, I want to know what will happen now that he is "there man." Something tells me that the critisism will be nothing compared to that of Bush.

I'll wait and see if it shows up in the Daily Show

Jesus Christ, man. Obama has always said if Pakistan doesn't take action and there is actionable intelligence then he would order a strike. He has said this over and over. The problem with you is you don't bother listening to what people say and then you make up arguments based on what you think they ought to have said.

I'm curious who exactly this Obama "worshiper" that strongly opposed the idea of military actions against militants in Waziristan is.

Are you honestly going to sit there with a straight face and tell me that there were not all sorts of lefty detrators of Bush's Pakistan strikes? (and no, I am not talking about Aployton posters, just in general)

All I want to know is if they will be consistant in their critisism.

Yes, I think that the strawman you're referring to (Obama worshipers who strongly denounced the idea of military action in Waziristan) would have to refer to a relatively small number of people. Not a "horde." Name a prominent example. Who needs to be consistent?

The little blurb at the end invariably identifies the people in question as veteran interrogators working with one branch or another of the armed forces (not the CIA).

So "veteran" interrogators who weren't even involved in the CIA interrogation program are the source for your definitive judgment on the efficacy of enhanced interrogation techniques?

Now this is really change I can believe in. Obama delivers on his promise for transparent government.
