Do you really think abortions have stopped over the past few years? Based on what?

Torturers say the info gained is not very reliable and is completely useless after about 48 hours since the capture of the indiviual is detected. Real fact, not BS.

Obama voters wanted and deserve change from the pinnacle of Republican competence for the last 8 years. The first time Obama does something half as slimy or idiotic as the previous office holder people will be disappointed. Obams most likely will stay in office for the whole four (or eight) years without ever sinking so low as half as bad as Bush.

Also, howTF do you quantify percentages of brutality? Should we twist the thumb-screws a certain percentage of the breaking point, so that only microfractures result?

Also, note that he endorses spreading scary rumors and describes how they might be effective. That's not torture by anyone's definition that I know of. Also "rough treatment" and "grim conditions," but he doesn't say what exactly those constitute so it's hard to judge that.

Dead on balls accurate. "Talking sensibly" appears to mean weasle-worded apology for torture.

Lancer, I'm sorry you feel that way. I totally understand your frustration with your tax dollars funding something you find abhorrent.

I was in New York City at the time, and I don't recall any public demand for torture from there or anywhere else.

There was definitely a desire for vengeance. Hell, my boss at the time was blathering about turning the ME into glass. The Towers were still burning (pre-collapse) and he was saying that.

Of course, he always says he votes for any Republican not under indictment.

Lots of normal people were angry after 9/11 and not thinking very clearly. Many of them still are angry and still aren't thinking very clearly. Lots of people in this country are fine with Gitmo just the way it is.

I just don't want to be a part of it and by using my taxes I'm being forced into it. I got one more summer working season in the US and then God willing I'm done, and that is some consolation.

To be fair, abortions to Nazi Germany. I still find the comparison poor, but it's a ****load better than condoms -> Nazis.

That's an understatement, Arrian; using Nazi Germany as a comparision with aborition is just plain dumb.

                              yeah pretty funny.

But hopefully most of you that see my posts will see me as a moderate repug, and not a wingnut like most of the people over at FOX. I do watch it every now and then (in real small doses) to see what the wingnuts are being told to think.

Stewart rocks. But eventually the focus will have to change to the current administration.

It was like Letterman the other night. They've been using Great moments in presidential speaches to just rip Bush a new one for the last eight years. They tried it last night with Obama and didn't even try to choose a snippet out of context that would look silly. They used a serious one and when it finished letterman said, well i guess that bit doesn't work anymore. Quite funny but just a tad biased.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

Because knowing what the **** you're talking about is HARD.

Relevant bit bolded because reading is HARD.

If you're going to talk **** to someone more knowledgeable than yourself, you might want to do it with greater backup than a single word in a newspaper piece...

Obama's orders did not ban the controversial CIA practice of "extraordinary rendition," in which prisoners are transferred by the CIA from one country to another.

Those transfers can continue, according to the orders, as long as prisoners are not taken to other nations "to face torture" or as part of a CIA effort to circumvent international laws on detainee treatment.

"There are some renditions that are, in fact, justifiable, defensible," said the senior Obama administration official. "There's not going to be rendition to any country that engages in torture."

Sometimes I really wonder why I waste my time here. It can't be for the elevated level of discourse.
