Humidity is relatively low here believe it or not. Certainly lower then in most places by the sea. It almost never gets muggy. BTW we have plenty of mountains in California even some in San Diego.

The best places are where you can go skiiing in the morning and then be at a warm sunny beach in the afternoon.

Thank you for the beautiful pictures, Asher. Calgary is clearly superior to San Diego.

        Higher mountains?

Mt. Whitney is 4200 m, Robson is 4600 m, less then an hour drive.

Do you forget that I lived four years in California?

The Sierra-Nevadas are nothing...I'm sure they're spectacular to people who don't know any better and think San Diego is beautiful.

It's awesome. He tries to list a bunch of reasons why San Diego is better, then even he realizes "wait, that's not true!" and edits it out. Then he's left with "WE HAVE SOME SKI HILLS" hours away.

When I was younger I'd have to agree on how spectacular some of that scenery is, but as I get older the warmth of places like San Diego would get the nod.
I'll agree with you -- decrepit old people (Oerdin, rah, et. al) would much prefer the retirement homes in San Diego to the man's man's paradise that is western Canada.

Hours? Big Bear is about an hour away. Close enough really.

                          QFMFT!

I really don't see why folks think the Rockies are all that impressive.

Warm water on the Gulf of Mexico, now that's a big deal.

Mountains? Heck I've even hiked up to Berg Lake, which is what, almost 7k feet?

I have to disagree about the Sierras. Specifically the western sierras.
                              Yosemite NP is amazing.
                              Wawona's Sequoia groves are awesome.
King's Canyon and Sequoia NPs are both wonderful.

The eastern sierras are not very pretty - fairly barren.
But from Mt. Whitney you can see Death Valley.

                                Big Bear? Seriously, Oerdin...the shame...

                                Big Bear:

Both the same distance from the respective towns.
