I read about this argument and as far as I know it is factually untrue.

I don't have MOD sources available but i'll do what I can up retort this.

Let´s suppose they are all good guys and dont harm people for fun or for sadistic reasons. They do it, because they fight for the same things: Safety and wellbeing for them and their families. After all there´s only humans on each side.
You're belief in human nature is heartwarming and care-bear fuzzy, but you are welcome to read the Hamas covenant, and watch their TV to see their mission statement.

The "let's pretend everyone just wants peace" argument doesn't work.

That is a song that will end very soon, just like at the start of the 2006 war when the Saudis and Egyptians blamed Hezbullah at the beginning.
              Maybe.

But it proves, that while not forced to, the Egyptians are honestly putting the blame where it lies. Hamas.

I'm rather sad that the Egyptian government, which daily run anti-semitic cartoons and tv-shows, is a more honest judge than you.

onodera: Actually, i think, in the long term, a federation could be an option. The land problem is a very hard one in this conflict. It might be impossible to find a ´fair´ line of division. So unification may be the only option. Maybe with two chambers of parliament, one for each side, with the right to veto each other. Or something like that. Utopia - i know.
If you read early works by Herzel and labor zionists, you'll see that they usually talk of a federative government with a Jewish and an Arab state co-existing and cooperating.

This isn't exactly what the other side expected.

It could have happenned if the Nashashibis would have proved more powerful, but it were the more extremist Husseini clan which controlled the Arab street in palestine.

And I had hoped only 60 years of strife between you folks had to be sorted out. What a bummer .

So Hamas is at "fault" that Israel decided to carry out this type of strike?

Have the guts to take responsibility for your actions.

I also find it hillarious that a people who honor religious fundamentalists who by their actions brough nothing but pain and misery for their own people act so outraged when their enemies act just like that.

You know, as an outsider with no strong ties to either side, it's hard for me to think of this as anything but a tragic outcome of plain stupidity on both sides.

On the Hamas side, it's been proven again and again and again and again and AGAIN that bombings, shootings and rocket launches do not end the occupation, but only bring more suffering to the people Hamas claim to be fighting for.

On the other hand, the IDF has already shown the whole wide world again and again and again and AGAIN that they are INCAPABLE of stopping the rocket launches or toppling the Hamas government by bombing, bulldozing and destroying infrastructure.

Yet at this time, what both parties are bringing to the table is more, more, more and MORE of the same.

Those who can not learn from history are condemned to repeat it - and it's a long way to the promised land for those who can only move in circles.

If it was you and your family who the terrorists were continually attacking then you might want your government to take action to protect you as well.
