  • The GG position should be elected, absolutely. It's now more clear than ever.

I love how Rae & the Liberals keep talking about democracy. The opposition in the house are NOT enacting the will of the people according to polls, so it's cute how they think they are. Or scary.

    • The people gave a combination of the Liberals, NDP and Bloc a majority in the Commons. They have the right to form a coalition if they want and such a coalition would represent the will of the people.

The people's will does not support the coalition overtaking the Harper government, according to polls. They're also well aware of this.

The people did not give a COMBINATION a majority. They gave them three distinct mandates, not a combined one. They have FAR less support as a combined entity. In fact, the Liberals explicitly said the would not form a coalition with the NDP (let alone the Bloc) during the election campaign. The people who voted for the Liberals did so under the impression they would not be merging their interests with the socialists and the separatists.

This is why even though, during the election, their combined seats barely outnumber the Conservative's, the Canadian public does not support this coalition. If this was put to a vote (Conservatives vs Liberal/NDP/Bloc), I guarantee you the coalition would lose.

Polls don't matter. Only election results do. If the Canadian people had wanted the Conservatives to have an unbreakable hold on control of the government, they would've given them a majority of the seats in the Commons.

Of course they did. Count up the seats.

There has been no election for a Liberal-NDP-Bloc coalition.

They ran for separate mandates with the explicit statement there would not be a coalition. I'm not sure you understand Canadian politics well, but it's seriously considered treason by many people that the Liberals are cooperating with the Bloc. To say it enrages Canadians is to understate the anger many feel.

The reason the coalition is terrific of an election is precisely because they know the coalition does not represent the will of the people.

No, they didn't. They did not run as a combination. You seem to have no clue that the inclusion of another party turns away many voters. It's not correct to simply add up the individual mandates and assume that equals a combined mandate. The parties involved would actually result in worse election results.

There doesn't have to be. All non-retards know that parties can ally with each other to form coalitions in a parliamentary system of government.

No, they didn't. They did not run as a combination.
              Doesn't matter. See above.

Seriously, I know you're pissy because your party is going to get kicked out of power, but there's no need to act like an idiot because of it. Calm down and try to get a Conservative majority in the next election.

No one is saying this is illegal. Just that it does not represent the will of the people, which is ideologically undemocratic, and undeniably true.

This affected moral outrage is tiresome. The Conservatives cooperated with the Bloc in the past, as well.

They have never signed a binding agreement. The Bloc have voted with the conservatives, but there was no binding contract like we have now. Because they voted the same doesn't mean they were in collusion.

                      • You have to wonder what the Liberals and NDP are thinking. Is it worth gaining a bit of power now and totally screw your chances in the long run by joining up with the Bloc? How dumb.

The Liberals are thinking they were absolutely shamed and devastated in the last election and they wanted to prove they had balls after the past 2 years of threatening to pull the plug on Harper, then just not showing up to vote him down, or voting with him.

The NDP are thinking this is their only chance to ever have any real influence, which is right.

The Bloc are thinking this is a terrific way for Quebec to get tons of free money in bribe payments, which is right.

The people who are pretending this is about the will of the people are deluded. This is about the Liberals getting revenge, which is ironic considering they're claiming they're doing this because Harper's doing **** for revenge and not in the interest of the country...

                          • I think you should all bow to my constitutional authority. 2 of my 3 conditions for granting a prorogue were promised publicly by Harper

Harper would not reveal the content of the discussion, citing constitutional traditions, but he said the first order of business when Parliament resumes Jan. 26 will be the presentation of the federal budget.

And I can only imagine that the third (promising not to request Jean's dismissal in the interim) was also given privately to her.

I don't actually know what powers the Governor General has, so I don't know if she actually overstepped her bounds. It does seem like she should've let the coalition take over or dissolved Parliament and called for a new election, however. Prorouging parliament seems like an undemocratic assist to Harper.

They are counting on voters with short term memories.
If at first you don't succeed, take the bloody hint and give up.
