  • Rumour is there was a near brawl between dippers and Liberals in an Ottawa watering hole last night. Anyone seen any media reports?

As for Dion's video... from Liberal activists I have shared barely with, that fiasco has all the marks of conscious sabotage. It is no secret that some senior Liberals were against the coalition as early as the day it was signed and delivered.

I bet 1 quatloo that the cameraman supports Ignatief, and the courier supports someone other than Rae.

In any event, Rae is as dead as a Dion now.

Thank you so much for your precision. I wasn't aware of that.

I think he's bright but sometimes lets his emotions and grudges get the best of him. I think I'm much the same way. But that's why I'm not in politics. They'd have to install a censor for Question Period broadcasts.

He's clearly the only competent leader out of the bunch we have right now.

OTTAWA — Stephen Harper steered his Conservative Party to strong gains in national support during this week's unprecedented political crisis, but he sustained severe losses in Quebec and does not enjoy the trust of almost half of Canadians, a new poll shows.
Wouldn't that be something if we get a new election out of this. The conservatives would gain power with a record majority government and Quebec would now be almost completely irrelevant. Quebec would be to the Conservatives what Alberta was to the Liberals -- a territory you shouldn't expect any votes from, and therefore shouldn't reliably serve as a government.

What's most amusing of the prospect of that to me is how close Quebec was to being the key to Harper's majority. If they had voted for him, we wouldn't be in this mess now...and potentially Quebec's irrelevance, at least for four years of Harper's majority.

QFT. This seems to be the opinion of many tonight.

The obvious explanation is massive ineptitude with the Liberals.

They can't fundraise, they can't put together a sensible environmental platform, they can't select a leader that is electable, they can't pick coalition partners wisely, and they certainly can't lead the country.

With ineptitude around every corner, why would you assume sabotage? Occam's razor...

              • Yes, I'd rather have a party that can fundraise and then circumvent electoral laws. Well-played, as usual.

                  Here's mine.

I think he's a smarmy, authoritarian, nasty little piece of work who is entirely too full of himself, but at least has some of the goods.

The wheedling tone of his voice in his address made me nauseous. It reminded me of Grimer Wormtongue. He would have made a fine Liberal.

Were it not for the blatant theft, I would yearn for the days of Jean the Mangler.

Go look up the actual text of the law, then explain how it was circumvented.

Then compare how awful that was compared to subverting the will of the people altogether with backdoor politics. And before repeating the party line of "But the coalition was elected!", look at the poll results released today and then tell me that the coalition is the will of the public.

Here's an ethics question for you, as a filosofy major: is it ethical for me to continue treating you like a capable human being in a debate when you are clearly operating with some kind of handicap?

                        Yeah, that's what I thought.

It's very clear that the public does not want this coalition and wants to be able to vote for it.

There's a reason you and the Liberals are terrified at the possibility of an election, and that's precisely why you refuse to acknowledge it as an option.

And also, I'm pretty much terrified by any election involving the intellect of Albertans.

Neither does a coalition of separatists, a former unity minister, and an NDP leader who masturbates to the thought of killing Alberta's economy and the sound of his own voice.

                              It's a national disaster.

Why am I not surprised that a Frenchman is afraid of Westerners?

                              ****ing cowards. Seriously.

It's sadly better than an ultra-conservative whose basis is 20$ donations from religious families who think that Jesus gave them oil.
