Anyone have ideas on how to go about this? Education efforts? Illustrating the hypocrisy of homophobic blacks on civil rights issues?
Stop voting for candidates that don't support your movement (I use this term loosely).

Martyrs. You need more martyrs. Yes, I'm actually serious. Martyrs were very important to the Civil Rights movement, they helped change the minds of fence sitters and even some of the less extreme opponents.

          • There aren't going to be any martyrs. Homosexuals have it ****ing sweet in our society, much better than blacks had it during the civil rights movement.

            • The fact that gays and lesbians face less severe discrimination than blacks does not mean that we have all our civil rights protection intact.

Yes, but it does indicate that it would be appropriate not to behave as if prejudice against homosexuals is the most pressing problem in our societies. In general, the homosexual rights movement has been notable for pitching its criticisms at the appropriate level. Radical feminists, to take an example, would have you think that every woman is raped and beaten once a week.

Having said that, there are other groups who whine far more and have it much much better than gay people. Have they no shame?

They're claiming that the amendment process wasn't properly followed and therefor prop 8 is invalid. I just don't see that line of argument working.

                        Remember Matthew Shepard!

Seriously, Dr S is absolutely correct. Until the BGLT communities put everything on the line to get their full rights, they will not get them. Power concedes nothing without a fight. Only those willing to die for their rights get them.

So, you think basic fundamental rights should be put to a simple vote of the majority?
