Over the last month of the campaign? So what? He's been talking for 35 years in the Senate, and in the recent primary. She hasn't. She had more of a responsibility to come out and prove that she wasn't just a ****wit from Wasilla. When she tried, she failed.

He has demonstrated much more of a capacity to retain basic information about the world we live in than she has. Or even the ability to form a cogent sentence in the face of a question.

Yup. But from what I saw of Palin she wouldn't have even known that FDR had anything to do with the frigging Depression.

That was the part that was worst. What's sadder is that that wasn't much of the story.

To be fair, that was on Oct 17. 7 weeks into her candidacy and 2 weeks before the election.

To be fair, that was on Oct 17.
The NYT mentioned a press availability on Oct. 7th. That was just the first link I saw.

                More on the subject...

Palin Becomes Increasingly Accessible To The National Media

(COLORADO SPRINGS) It was less than two weeks ago when Sarah Palin astonished her traveling press corps by lifting the curtain (literally) and journeying to the back of her campaign plane to answer reporters’ questions for the first time after 40 days on the campaign trail. But the candidate who has been criticized for having a bunker mentality when it came to the national media can now lay legitimate claim to being more accessible than either Joe Biden or Barack Obama.

In the past two days alone, Palin has answered questions from her national press corps on three separate occasions. On Saturday, she held another plane availability, and on Sunday, she offered an impromptu press conference on the tarmac upon landing in Colorado Springs. A few minutes later, she answered even more questions from reporters during an off-the-record stop at a local ice cream shop.

By contrast, Biden hasn’t held a press conference in more than a month, and Obama hasn’t taken questions from his full traveling press corps since the end of September. John McCain—who spent most of the primary season holding what seemed like one, never-ending media availability—hasn’t done one since Sept. 23.

Though she often turns the “mainstream media” into a punching bag on the stump, Palin clearly enjoys interacting with reporters. She seems to relish the opportunity to demonstrate that her breadth of knowledge far exceeds what she offered to CBS News’ Katie Couric in a series of interviews that were marked by vague, often convoluted answers to straightforward questions.

After her plane in Colorado Springs, Palin answered no less than 14 questions from the media. It took traveling press secretary Tracey Schmitt three attempts finally to get the governor to move along.

I might also note that in that press conference she wasn't asked a single question having to do with anything other than the election itself (i.e. no policy questions whatesoever). I don't know if that was part of the requirements or if the media just felt like talking about the horse race that day.

                        But, oh the wonderful recriminations...

Palin's shopping spree at high-end department stores was more extensive than previously reported. While publicly supporting Palin, McCain's top advisers privately fumed at what they regarded as her outrageous profligacy. One senior aide said that Nicolle Wallace had told Palin to buy three suits for the convention and hire a stylist. But instead, the vice presidential nominee began buying for herself and her family—clothes and accessories from top stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. According to two knowledgeable sources, a vast majority of the clothes were bought by a wealthy donor, who was shocked when he got the bill. Palin also used low-level staffers to buy some of the clothes on their credit cards.

Palin launched her attack on Obama's association with William Ayers, the former Weather Underground bomber, before the campaign had finalized a plan to raise the issue. McCain's advisers were working on a strategy that they hoped to unveil the following week, but McCain had not signed off on it, and top adviser Mark Salter was resisting.

                        • I know you guys have hard-ons for Palin and it clouds your judgment, but the Newsweek expose (which isn't based on these recent revelations) corroborates the FOX News reports, which are all corroborated by past stories coming out of Alaska: Her unbridled ambition and lack of ethics would be really dangerous if it wasn't for her being a total know-nothing.

No, it doesn't. The Newsweek story jibes with the Fox towel/bathrobe story, but not the Africa/NAFTA nonsense.
