    • Obama's a good dude, but for me to have voted for him, he would have needed to do one of the following:

      1. Change tax plan so that it's not just an exercise in sticking it to rich people
      2. Stop pushing for universal health care when the nation isn't ready to afford it.
      3. Come out against agricultural subsidies like McCain has.

There are plenty of positives, though, and I wish him the best of luck once he takes office.

      • If it is a return towards how things were, how is it an exercise in sticking it to rich people?

        • Why should those things be mutually exclusive?

Also, if we really want to return to how things were, how about repealing the 16th amendment?*

*I don't actually endorse this, the suggestion was merely made to make a point.

Don't we spend more on our health care than countries with universal health care? So wouldn't following their example lessen the cost, not increase it?

            • We do. We're the richest country, so we have the most to spend on expensive treatments, and we don't live particularly healthily.

Changing around who pays for something doesn't make it any cheaper.

Uh, if a black person votes for a candidate because he is black, then he is not voting for the other candidate because he is white.

                    Edited for Boris.

Not true. One can vote for a candidate without being voting against the other. Sometimes people actually do *like* the candidates they have to choose from.

I voted for Obama in the primary. It wasn't an indictment of Clinton (who I like as well), it was support FOR Obama.

So, you voted for Obama because he's black?

You're missing the point, which was that voting for a candidate doesn't require one to be voting against the other.

                            Yes, it does.

Your vote doesn't go to the other person, it counts against him.

Again, not the point. We're talking about rationale for voting, not its practical effect.

No it doesn't. A vote for Nader is not counted against McCain or Obama (or Barr, or McKinney, or the Constitution party dude, or Ron Paul in two states), its tallied in Nader's column.
