Also, Thue, you need to respect General Hand-Waving a little more. He was a noted nephew to Judge Learned Hand.

In one vital respect, however, the comparison is deeply unfair to the current president: George W. Bush was a much better pilot.

Wow, after reading that shamefull spin about the Forrestal fire, anyone taking this article seriously at any level is a complete idiot.
That's where I started laughing at it.

I did not see the point of that section either. There are plenty of better points to make at other places, instead of criticizing McCain for the minor point of not participating in the rescue effort during the fire.

I do not think it makes the rest of the article moot, however.

There is no minor point of to critisize him on, there is NO point to critisize him on there. There are close to 5000 people on a combat operating career, unless you find yourself by immediate circumstances in a place to initially respond ir are the designated first responders (there are always fire crews ready and waiting on deck during flight evolutions) you get the hell out of the way. More specifically, you go to your muster location to be accounted for (for pilots, where might you guess that would be?) so that the DCA knows exactly where his human assets are and wait for them to ask for your help for a coordinated effort. 5K people rushing to the deck doesn't help anyone.

I hope those details above from a former Navy damage control locker officer help you understand just what complete tripe the article is.
