The point was that his getting caught and put on trial put an end to his ambitions, even if he wasn't convicted. No such luck yet with Cheney.

That's debating to a big win. Expect 5-10% boost in McCain's numbers.
She did not masterbate on the stage. The expectations of her were SO LOW that her not masterbating in front of the American public is a victory.

      Yeah, she won big.

Biden wiped the floor with her.

Palin's new slogan: Palin in '08-she didn't masterbate in public!

              • Mark, have you discounted the possibility Fox's "undecided" voters are not simply a poor sample designed to love Palin, but paid actors, or Republican volunteers?

                  • Ah. Every time I think Fox news cannot possibly get worse, they get worse.

It is possible they just have crappy poling methods, but Fox does everything in their power to push the Republican party line.

I honestly believe they may be actors, whether they are simply republican volunteers, or actually being paid.

I agree. Those answers were clearly scripted. It's sad.

                      • Gah.

I'm used to politicians dodging questions, Biden certainly did his share of that but I don't think I've ever seen a politician just completely and utterly ignoring the whole topic of a question and just blathering on about energy.

It seemed that for every question Palin just recited the lines she had memorized for that topic beforehand and when she didn't know what do say she just talked about energy no matter what the topic was. I know that these debates are mostly regurgitation of memorized statements but with Palin it just got pathetic. And yeek, the attempt to stick in memorized zingers all over the place no matter how badly they fit or how artificial they sounded (Joe say it isn't so and there you go again in one sentence!).

Aside from that what made Biden win the debate is that for both candidates there was a lot more talk about McCain than about Obama. The more the public debate is about McCain the better things tend to go for Obama and vice versa...

Indeed, that was a naked shill group, I wonder in Luntz was in on it he seemed a bit surprised at the reactions. If he actually allowed Fox to pick the panel (as the Pollsters its obviously his responsibility to select the group) he's either complicit or a sucker.

Overall its a clear Biden win, Palin probably halted the collapse of her favorability and competency polls but their already terrible, if she had bombed any more the public opinion would have crystallized permanently against her much as the famous "Potatoe" incident did for Quayle.

Keep in mind that permanent Quayle like 'branding' that renders a person a laughing stock for a generation can only happen when a preexisting atmosphere of opinion exists and is shockingly confirmed in a very memorable event, if a different atmosphere exists and the shocking event occurs people will dismiss it. So for example if the same shocking 'stupid' thing happens to Palin and Biden he can not be branded an idiot while she would be because of the preexisting opinion on each of them. Given that she isn't permanently branded yet (but the atmosphere is fully saturated) its possible with herculean effort Palin could even claw her way back to a net positive rating, not that I believe that kind of performance is not in her of course.
