That's what Biden said. McCain voted against (or if he skipped the vote, he opposed) funding with timetables; Obama voted against funding without timetables. The point that he was making is that Palin's claim that Obama voted to defund the troops is disingenous.
    Fact! Listen closely to Ramo!

    • Why oh WHY are meaningless votes like that such a valuable talking point for both sides?

Let's go through a little thought experiment, shall we? Suppose I propose a bill to armor all humvees in Iraq, and then I attach an amendment mandating weekly anal rape of every kitten in the country. In keeping with your anti-rape and/or pro-kitten constituency, you reluctantly vote against the bill.

Did you vote against "funding our troops"?
      Unbelievable!

      • Of course you did! If I'm on the opposite side, that is. Of course, I'll accuse you of promoting anal rape, and the sound bites will go on and on and on and on...Politics rocks!

Oh no you see, if you're anything like our national politicians, you won't make any sort of nuanced argument that centers around the amendment that was the only thing truly at issue. That bores the hell out of people. The issue is 100% about how deep down you want our brave troops to eat roadkill, sleep in the streets, and fight with spears fashioned out of old broomsticks and broken beer bottles. Now there's some "red-meat" politics baby yeah! Look at those focus-group perception-o-meters skyrocket!

          Unbelievable!

In context it makes sense, IIRC. When he [McCain] initially responded to the question he thought they were talking about the head of state of a different country, and then he tried to turn it into a joke.

Because they can be taken out of context and used to inflame the anti-kitten-raping lobby.

Not according to his own campaign

The McCain campaign insisted Thursday morning that the Senator meant what he said when, during an interview on Spanish radio, he refused to commit to a meeting with Spain's prime minister, Jose Luis Zapatero.

"The questioner asked several times about Senator McCain's willingness to meet Zapatero (and id'd him in the question so there is no doubt Senator McCain knew exactly to whom the question referred). Senator McCain refused to commit to a White House meeting with President Zapatero in this interview," the Senator's foreign policy adviser Randy Sheunemann told the Washington Post.

You make it sound as if he had another leader in mind. He just heard a Spanish-sounding name and assumed they were in Latin America.

                  • Wow, the campaign is really mad at Peggy Noonan for what she said about Palin. So mad, apparently, they'll even look like their advertising is shoddy.

Last night, on NBC, Noonan said "She killed. It was her evening. She was the star".

Nope, saw it myself. The McCain campaign released a goof:

I saw it on the WaPo op-ed page.

                          • They also misspell "Exaggerated" in their current Biden attack ad.

Quality work there in the McCain camp.

                              Umm, nice try

"Is she not a famous person?" asked McCain campaign blogger Michael Goldfarb, queried about the ad. Given an assent that Noonan is, indeed, famous (or, at least, famous in political circles), he continued, "OK, so what's the problem?"

"If there's no factual inaccuracy, I don't know what the problem is," he added.
