My take on the whole thing is about what rah said. Palin did enough to salvage her future political potential, but it isn't going to do anything to help McCain change the course of the campaign. I think it's likely this is the last major thing we ever see of Palin, considering the McCain campaign will not let her do any press conferences and will likely not have her do interviews that could erase the positive image she created in the debate.
I thought Biden was great, and he did have the only truly human and touching moment of the night, when he got choked up talking about the accident that killed his wife and daughter and injured his boys. I think Palin missed a great opportunity to show some empathy right after that, as she didn't even acknowledge it but barreled on into a "We're mavericks!" talking point. She allowed Biden to beat her out on the one item where she was supposed to have an advantage, which was appealing to people's hearts.
Today with the House voting on the bailout package, the focus is going to shift right back to the economy. And the unemployment report coming out (today I think?) is supposedly quite bleak, showing jobless claims at a 7-year low.Tutto nel mondo è burla

Yeah, I don't see how anyone could objectively claim Palin did "very good." At one point she even admitted she wasn't going to answer any questions she didn't want to. I don't think she embarassed herself compared to the Gibson or Couric interviews, but she rarely answered the questions, came across as obviously scripted and allowed Biden to pound the crap out of McCain without answering back effectively.
It also looks like she may emerge as having had the biggest gaffe of the night, as she was flat-out wrong in claiming that McCain supported closing the loophole in the bankruptcy bill:
Palin flubs on McCain's homeowner's protection position
Sarah Palin got her facts wrong in Thursday's debate with Joe Biden when discussing where John McCain stands on new protections for homeowners facing foreclosures.
The Alaska governor incorrectly made it sound like McCain supports giving bankruptcy judges the power to rewrite mortgage payment terms on first homes.
He doesn't.
The McCain campaign confirms to ABC News that Palin misstated McCain's position.Tutto nel mondo è burla

Last week McCain lost to Obama in the Fox focus group.
Just face facts -- she was down to earth, Biden was over the top and old.

I thought they mostly got the first debate right in calling it for McCain, but it just seems a little ridiculous to me to be giving this one to Palin.
Personally, I am certain McCain clearly won that debate on Economic Policy, and on foreign policy had a slight advantage... but that's not the way the news outlets (including) fox were playing the McCain/Obama debate.
The again, they weren't focused on substantive issues- they were focused on perceptions. and people perceived Obama as standing up to mcCain-- which I saw him as failing to do in the logic of his answers.
--
Then I am confused here to hear the media claim Palin did well in the debate... She did not do poorly, but Biden won the debate substantively because Palin doesn't know all the facts that can support her point of view- Biden knows his stuff.
Palin however, DID succeed in the perceptions game-- she demonstrated she is smart and that she can learn and judge what to say... But proving that is not winning a debate.-->Visit CGN!

I tried to watch this. I made it through about 10 seconds of Palin, then I had to either turn the TV off with the remote or a revolver.
I think it's really sad that all a VP candidate has to do now-a-days to succeed in a debate is not be a complete fool.
And those lines in the Fox news thing were clearly rehearsed. You've just proven signature advertising works!

Here we go:
Biden and Palin debated, and both mangled some facts.
* Palin mistakenly claimed that troop levels in Iraq had returned to “pre-surge” levels. Levels are gradually coming down but current plans would have levels higher than pre-surge numbers through early next year, at least.
* Biden incorrectly said “John McCain voted the exact same way” as Obama on a controversial troop funding bill. The two were actually on opposite sides.
* Palin repeated a false claim that Obama once voted in favor of higher taxes on “families” making as little as $42,000 a year. He did not. The budget bill in question called for an increase only on singles making that amount, but a family of four would not have been affected unless they made at least $90,000 a year.
* Biden wrongly claimed that McCain “voted the exact same way” as Obama on the budget bill that contained an increase on singles making as little as $42,000 a year. McCain voted against it. Biden was referring to an amendment that didn't address taxes at that income level.
* Palin claimed McCain’s health care plan would be “budget neutral,” costing the government nothing. Independent budget experts estimate McCain's plan would cost tens of billions each year, though details are too fuzzy to allow for exact estimates.
* Biden wrongly claimed that McCain had said "he wouldn't even sit down" with the government of Spain. Actually, McCain didn't reject a meeting, but simply refused to commit himself one way or the other during an interview.
* Palin wrongly claimed that “millions of small businesses” would see tax increases under Obama’s tax proposals. At most, several hundred thousand business owners would see increases.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

That's what Biden said. McCain voted against (or if he skipped the vote, he opposed) funding with timetables; Obama voted against funding without timetables. The point that he was making is that Palin's claim that Obama voted to defund the troops is disingenous."Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. He is full of murderous resentment of people who are ignorant without having come by their ignorance the hard way. "
