    Ha!

Well, I don't look at an investment in this climate that way. These are good prices.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Some of them are good prices. Some of them are 0's in disguise. I trust Buffet to have a good chance of picking the winners... not so much for the average investor (myself included).

Just buy an index fund and don't worry about individual stocks.

That's what I plan to do. Early next week. I've backed off the idea of trying to pick any individual stocks.

I don't think the indexes in general have found their bottom yet. Given the mess our government is making of this... we could keep digging a long ways yet.

The China index ETF that I own (FXI) is now trading at attractive levels. Two-thirds off its highs.

It's heavy into energy and basic materials, so that's why there was such a huge drop. Also heavy into financial services. There have been articles in the last week playing up the drop in real estate in China.

**** me. I put a bunch in (to an S&P index fund)... and then the damn thing falls off a cliff again. I think we got in when the Dow was roughly 9100.

Long term, fine, but it's not fun right now.

Congrats. I got in big at 9310 and feel very comfortable about the investment.

Actually, the truth is my nagging unease is mostly about whether I should be putting more in. We could.
