Are you on that TV series? That's an interesting show.

        • I'm a Ph.D. student in biochemistry, specifically DNA repair processes. Very specifically, the involvement of an error-prone DNA polymerase in the gap-filling portion of nucleotide excision repair after the excision of the helix-distorting lesion while under conditions of low nucleotide concentrations.

This week, I'm making glow-in-the-dark cells.
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.

            • Good News Update!

I'm pleased to follow-up on my previous posts in this thread with some good news!

As of this past Wednesday, and until the end of January 2009, I am a full-time secondary school teacher ... for the first time since I began this career ~3 1/2 years ago no less. (To be more specific, I picked up two classes filling in for another teacher who has gone on maternity leave.)

                            • I'm a cop.

More specifically, my title is Field Training Officer. I train cops. Ok, I only train cops if I get one of the new one. Otherwise, I do cop work. Run traffic... respond to calls. I make frequent stops to the hospital for all kinds of reasons. I know you guys won't believe it, but I help people. Ok.. I also ruin lives (well I ruin lives by catching people being stupid). It's mostly boring and alot of paperwork. A good way to describe it is 3 hours of bordom followed by 15 seconds of terror. Lather rinse repeat.

I can also attest same, hasnt changed Brother, same since mid 70's

My son is now a Detective Sgt. with Onslow County NC Sherriff's Dept, SWAT Team and he is also a graduate of the new program (ay least down here in North carolina) called Police Training Officer (replaced the FTO) (I had an FTO when i was a LawDawg)

People in general have a very convoluted image of law enforcement, like you said, lots of boredom, traffic, maybe checking unsecured doors, writing reports (and the one that really bugged me) the domestic call..A-Z on what might happen, thats why i like what most states have, 48 hr incarceration so that a person can get away but most times wont.

Anyhoo, I salute you Donegeal, utmost props and respect, a very dangerous and thankless job for the most part.

The most horriffic experience I had and is tough this day, 3:18 in the morning, you have to knock on a door, and give someone some very tragic news, yet as a lawman, in spite of the training, it sometimes is hard to just deliver the message, but thats what you have to do....................

                                Ok, next up folks
