Sexism exists when you state that someone's sex is a determining factor for something when it is strongly argueable that it is not. Examples are saying a woman can't lead the country, or that a man can't be as good a parent as a woman.

Claiming that men and women are equal with regards to the matter of getting pregnant is not egalitarianism, it is insanity.

Here's the difference between people like Gepap and I who tend to be liberal, and people like you and Elok, who tend to be conservative. That is, that you think that you can understand the way people feel even though you have never been in a similar circumstance with them and/or, you aren't significantly like them. We don't. What we do do is have respect for those people.

This applies to the Stupid Hollywood Bimbo thread as well. Good, I don't have to post the same thing in both.

        You think I'm conservative?

Careful. I didn't say you were being sexist or that acknowledging those differences is sexist. All I said is that the only way to get rid of sexism is to stop acknowledging those differences. As long as humans continue to identify people based on sex, we will have the foundation for making sexist decisions.

I think women should be allowed to have abortions whenever they want. I also think men should be allowed to shoot pregnant women. I also think that it's okay to play catch with aborted fetuses, regardless of whether or not those playing catch are men or women.

I'm completely amoral when it comes to the issue of abortion. I just have particular ideas about the issue of abortion when it concerns my hypothetical utopia.

What you don't get is that sexism is more than just judging people according to their sex. You aren't going to get rid of sexism by not doing that. That's because you don't have the capability to think or feel the way a women does. Therefore you can't say things like abortion is immoral because if I were a women I wouldn't do it. You aren't a women, so you can't do that.

Ignoring facts is no way to make rational or intelligible policy. You can't ignore, nor should you ignore, the differences between the sexes. Sexism doesn't come from acknowledging those differences that do exist, it comes from inventing differences where they don't exist.

No, sexism comes from two basic truths: (1) Humans have a tendency to categorize items based on physical appearances and (2) those in power will do whatever it takes to maintain their power.

And you think the power of thought will somehow wash away these fundamental human traits that we evolved with?

Well, I don't. I fully acknowledge the basic and obvious physiologial differences between male and female members of the human species. I also know enough about them to understand when they matter, and when they don't. I would hope to live in a society that shared this knowledge.

The trouble with your analogy is that whereas capital punishment is forced to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, there are no such restrictions with respect to abortion.

Does the unborn child get to have a trial? Or is she summarily executed without one? If abortion is merely state sanctioned murder, then what stops the state from killing any one of us, just because we are inconvenient or unwanted or a burden on society?
Well Ben the RCC is against the death penalty as well so your affiliation is intellectually coherent on that point.

So, he can't have an opinion on the matter because he agrees on the ends of your argument and not on how you get there?

I also agree women should have abortions whenever they want. So suck on it .

And btw, we are all men here, so what are even doing having this discussion then according to your viewpoint?

What about saying abortion is immoral because the fetus is a life?
