Where is Taiwan again anyway?
I believe it's up your arse. Quite roomy there, actually.

Also on this day in history, in 1973 the democratically elected government of Salvador Allende in Chile was overthrown in a bloody coup that claimed over 3100 lives. US president Richard Nixon, US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, and the CIA were implicated for direct involvement.

Yeah, but they were dirty socialists, so I don't care. Neither does anyone else that matters.

Sloww, living in Jersey those years when they were building the WTC we got to see them reach ever higher for the sky on the local news. Then when they were finished my dad brought the family and we went to see them. We went up on the elevators to the top of the one with the observation floor. Up there when you looked out the only thing at your level was the other tower. New York spread out below... I was a kid so I went right up to the window, pressed my head against the glass and looked down. Immediatly I got a sense of the ground rushing up at me as my eyes focused on it. That cause me to jump back like I'd een slapped. I never though too much about it until I saw those great buildings come down.

Pissed me off royally. I won't forget.

My fondest memory of the WTC is the Simpsons episode where Homer's car gets a boot put on it and he goes into the WTC to go to the bathroom to take a piss. Remember that one? It was funny.

I miss the Towers. Saw them every day for the four years going to my high school, which was about five blocks north of ground zero. Then I worked in the area later, so I got to walk by the remains of the Deutsche Bank building daily. I would have preferred something similar to the towers going up, instead of the hideous "Freedom" Tower.

Being in NYC that day, anywhere in the City, was somewhat surreal. First time I turned on the radio that I could remember, given that I had only one broadcast channel on TV, since every station but one transmitted thier signal from the WTC.

Note for the reader: Lancer was NOT a kid when the WTC was new.

The north tower was opened in Dec. 1970 and the south tower in Jan. 1972

I don't remember Lancer's age, but it's not entirely impossible, if he was born ~1955, which would put him at 53 now, which is about where I imagine Lancer as being ...
