Within three generations, they did. And they came in at a rate low enough that this could happen. You haven't had a "critical mass" migration yet, where enough immigrants come in within a short enough time to form a sustainable independent culture of their own.

Black culture was significantly different than the Anglo-Saxon cuture of the founding English settlers. And Italians, Irish, etc, brought all sorts of new ideas and culture (imagine the founders celebrating St. Patty's Day!!). They integrated into the idea of the United States and still kept their own distinct culture (go to Little Italy or Chinatown in NYC if you don't believe me).

It was the Anglo culture that kept everyone together, but the founding ideals.

Their appears to be no category for people of mixed race in this study and yet they allude to them.

I think their folding them into the minority groups which results in an inflation to those numbers, as much as half of each minority group could be such mixed peoples. When mixed children are folded into the minority group it will give the false impression that their having more children then the white population, I've lived in Arizona and from first hand experience I can see that theirs a very high degree of mixing between whites and Hispanics. The US will demographically resemble Brazil in a few generations their will be a continuous blend from brown to white with Asian and African overtones. Most people don't realize that Latin America has a full ethnic diversity too it from pure native American to pure European and individual countries have their own mixes, Argentina is whiter then the US and Bolivia is predominantly native. Mexico's about half and half and I've know people from across the spectrum.
