You know what? I was quite surprised when I came here to Poly and didn't find a thread about the war, while the war was already go on for nearly 24 hours.
I was really surprised and started this thread. Now I am not surprised at all. Your media started to cover the situation only after Russians send reinforcements to their peacekeeping forces. A day after Georgia started to massacre Osetian civilians and attacked Russian peacekeepers. Sure, after we brought reinforcements your media were free to bark about Russia who invides Georgia.

frankly, I think if Russia successfully overran i.e. Estonia, the closest US armour is in Germany (if at all there), the closest serious NATO armour is in Poland. Would you risk the nuking of Chicago over some obscure corner of the Baltic?

Yes, actually. That is the reason why the Baltics were in such a rush to join NATO.

It's reassuring, but I think that faced with the real decision of sending ground troops to actually try and evict Russians from wherever wimps like Germans or other countries with leaders waiting for Gazprom retainers, consulting contracts and board positions might have second thoughts...

It's pretty hard to find an English speaking source which doesn't support the Georgian version of events.
