Obama thinks the tires are half-full. Can you inflate them the rest of the way? Yes you can!
    Change you can believe in.

And now McCain has flip-flopped on this 'issue' as well.
      I'm consitently stupid- Japher
I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

Because it's push-back against Republicans who have for several days now been mocking Obama for stating that simple fact, treating him as if it were his whole energy plan. It's been one of the more skull-crushingly stupid memes in recent memory used against Democrats, one that has been ROUNDED criticized by both more-intelligent Republicans (you know, ones that believe in proper, simple vehicle maintenance) and automobile experts, organizations, mechanics, and now even McCain himself ... after having mocked Obama for stating that simple fact.

Funny how McCain doesn't have the arrogance to tell us to make sure we tie up our shoes in the morning because slipping and falling could be painful.

It has everything to do with Obama thinking he has to be the caretaker for everyone in the US. I'm sorry. I don't need Obama to tell me that I can save gas by inflating my tires.

As amazing as that insight of his is, perhaps he should give credit to others for his speech material.

Maybe Obama should show some faith in the people of America, you know the ones who are bitter and love their guns and drive their hummers in WVA, nevermind that most of the Hummers are in urban areas where democrats proliferate.

You noticed that about Hummers, too? Or damned huge pickups with dual tires setting outside some law office, or gym class and the soccer mom dropping off her kids.

                McCain making Ben look ridiculous:
Energy efficiency by using improved technology and practicing sensible habits in our homes, businesses and automobiles is a big part of the answer, and is something we can achieve right now. And new advances will make conservation an ever more important part of the solution. Improved light bulbs can use much less energy; smart grid technology can help homeowners and businesses lower their energy use, and breakthroughs in high tech materials can greatly improve fuel efficiency in the transportation sector. We need to dispel the image of conservation that entails shivering in cold rooms, reading by candlelight, and lower productivity. Americans have it in their power today to contribute to our national security, prosperity and a cleaner environment. They understand the dangers we face, and are prepared to respond to appeals to patriotism that explain how we can free ourselves from them.

Shocking that Ben would miss the point.

Ben, he wasn't delivering an entire speech about vehicle maintenance. It was a throwaway, totally non-controversial line in a larger speech that normal, mentally-balanced people wouldn't have thought twice about. Conservatives focused on that one little statement and made hay of it as if it were, you know, an issue to make hay about. They're desperate and it's showing.

Seeing as you're either too lazy to watch a vid or to stupid to comprehend, I'll try to make it simple for you. On the campaign trail, Obama had laid out his energy plan and someone from the audience asked, "What can individuals do to help?" So he responded with "you can make sure your tires are properly inflated" b/c if everyone did so it'd save ~3-4% total gasoline consumption in the U.S.

That's it. No preaching, no telling what to do, just answering a question. Please tell me you understood.

What's next, banning incandescents? This isn't the first time that Obama has said he knows better then Americans what they need.

I hadn't heard about it until Poly made an issue about it. I hardly think Poly is a haven for Conservatives.
