    I always laugh.

Once, I went out for a steak dinner and when the waiter brought it, he had his thumb on it.

I asked him why he had his thumb on my steak, he said he didn't want it to fall on the floor again.

    ACK!
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust!

I would look round, maybe catch the waiter's eye and shrug: things happen.

              Welcome back gramps!

I'll remember that if I'm ever serving at your table. Giving them the choke signal is just too funny.

I can't think of anyone in his right mind who would cheer if that happened. That could be part of a 14-year old's attitude or something, but a grown-up...?

I would like to ask this question for those who work in the restaurant business!
I was in Greece a few weeks ago: In one of the restaurants my niece accidentally dropped a plate on the floor. The waiters just stood there looking at us, didn't care about helping clean it up (the restaurant was almost empty at that time, so it was not because they where busy serving customers). They didn't lift a finger before we told them to clean it up

"Assume you are in Greece and throw your plate on the floor"
This space is empty... or is it?

I generally ignore it as well -- I may stare in the direction of the incident for a few moments, but that's it.

This is just a case of you not being able to distinguish what the good places to dine are when you're in a foreign country. Sometimes it's hard, especially when you're hungry

I could see from the moment we entered the restaurant that this was not a good place, but the others I went with wanted to try it out (there wasn't that many restaurants in town)... they sure regret it now
