I usually cheer (sherds are supposed to bring good fortune!), but I really liked the Greek response .

Ignore, unless it was literally right next to my foot in which case i'd offer to help without actually expecting them to take it up
Learn to overcome the crass demands of flesh and bone, for they warp the matrix through which we perceive the world. Extend your awareness outward, beyond the self of body, to embrace the self of group and the self of humanity. The goals of the group and the greater race are transcendant, and to embrace them is to acheive enlightenment.

I usually ignore it... and ignore any *******s at my table who feel like cheering.

As a waiter who has had this misfortune, I actually feel more relieved when someone cheers. It's better to know that someone enjoyed it than have everyone just notice in an awkward silence.

If i'm familiar with them, comment / say something 'witty' in my mind (like, cheering...). Otherwise, ignore. It happens. Move on, nothing to see here.

i prefer to shout loudly whilst pointing and laughing, giving him both the guilt and maximising the embarrassment he feels.
