Haran's wife, Smadar, hid with their 2-year-old daughter, accidentally suffocating her in an effort to stop her from crying out.

Kuntar was 16 at the time of the raid.

Why didn't you kill him? What the hell good do these bodies do your country? WTF?
Israel has a long history of swapping prisoners etc even for dead people. I think it's not a bad thing, but I wouldn't have swapped em for a murderous bastard.

Becuase he was not elligigle for the death penalty under Israeli law. Simple enough.

What I am curious about is why Kuntar is so much of an icon for either side. Yeah, when kids die its somehow supposed to be more terrible than when other human beings die and whatever, but was he really any worse than many militants traded before?

Also Hzb played some psycho games with Israel so it wasn't clear until the exchange was done that both were indeed dead.

I wouldn't want my friend's or relative's body be in the hands of what I would consider an enemy, or who at the time died in enemy hands and still is in their hands. I'd want it back. If there's no huge political backlash, I'd take the offer.

Bad move from Israel, because ashes are ashes and have no big worth apart from the families, while by this move, Israel de facto invited further attacks etc.
and bad move from Lebanon as well, because some people (including me) see it in less favourable light now.
A murderer of a 4 yo girl shouldn't have been let out. I don't understand why Israel agreed, unless it counted on the psychological effects: Lebanese fighting with Israel are child-murderers...

I agree. I used to like Lebanon, on account of it having a sizable Christian minority, and being a bit more Mediterranean than just Middle Eastern. Now, with a Christian president kowtowing to Muslim terrorists, I'm disappointed.

                      WTF!!!????????????????????????????????????

Is this like the final Israeli admission of weakness and tacit agreement of maintaining the status quo with hezbollah...?

Or the final proof that their war last year with Lebanon was an utter and complete disaster?

What the hell are they doing with these idiotic prisoner swaps for dead people? Especially a known child-killer!!! How can Israel in all conscience release this man!!??? It makes a mockery of the entire conflict...

Talk about encouraging the terrorists to do more of the same...

Total and utter ****ing morons - no wonder the whole region is so badly ****ed up the way it is!
Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?

Is keeping a child murderer in prison more important than ending the suffering of 2 families, due to the uncertain fate of their sons, and husbands?

Each Israeli knows that if something happens to him, Israel will get him back to his family, even if he's no longer alive. I think that is important.

If you had to let go a child murderer to save your family member you would probably have done that.

You must remember, though, that Michel Suleyman was forced through by Hezbollah

                              Are you thick, or what!!?

****ing hell, Siro - I know you're an arch Israeli apologist and all, but this has to be one of the most stupid things you have ever said on this forum in your life...!!!

What about the family of the child that was killed, knowing its killer has been released!!? It is idiotic! It is just symptomatic of all the stupid behind the scenes back-slapping and deal making that serve to perpetuate the misery of normal people on both sides...

This deal is wrong in so many ways! It is now OK to kill Israelis because you will get other living terrorists released. It is OK to kill children, etc...

How long before the next attack and kidnapping!!!??

Each Israeli knows that if something happens to him, Israel will get him back to his family, even if he's no longer alive. I think that is important.
I think it's also important that that family realises that when he or she is returned, that it encourages other members of their family also to be killed - but that's OK, cos their bodies will be returned too!

If you had to let go a child murderer to save your family member you would probably have done that.
You selfish bastard! You really are a piece of work, aren't you...? Do you actually mean that?

More fool you if that person then returns to kill a member of your own family.

No wonder your country is so ****ed up when people like you actually think this is a good idea!

                              Jesus ****ing Christ!
