Considering we've had a president with no discernable leadership skills, and developing none over a course of 8 years, I wouldn't discount the dems yet.
And let's not even consider that whole 'Dan Quayle' thing years ago.I'm consitently stupid- Japher
I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

Both candidates?
You mean Hillary and Obama?
I must say I'm a bit disappointed. I had hoped the Florida and Michigan voters would be bumped up to the magical 3/5ths of a person. Sadly they fell short.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

Honestly, the Dems ****ed themselves a year ago when there were no governors running. That would have been the sure bet, but no, they put up a bunch of people with no real leadership skills and a lot of things to be attacked on."I have as much authority as the pope. The Dems ran a governor. In fact, they ran the most prominent, experienced Democratic governor in the country. He came in fourth."Yay Apoc!!!!!!!" - bipolarbear

Yep. Ultimately, all of the Governors (and former Governors) in the country are weaker candidates than Obama and Clinton. Mark Warner (who'd make a killer candidate), for example, was scared off by Obama."Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. Not Napolitino, but Sebelius, Vilsack, or Warner would have been better."Yay Apoc!!!!!!!" - bipolarbear

Sebelius and Warner you could make decent cases for (but I doubt it). Vilsack is a ridiculous example."Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. Obama was an "establishment candidate"? What the hell does that mean?"Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. He is full of murderous resentment of people who are ignorant without having come by their ignorance the hard way. "

People don't get to be President without prominent supporters greasing the wheels. By that definition, every reasonably successful candidate is an "establishment candidate."
Clinton had half of the party apparatus in her back pocket. That's a reasonable characteristic of an "establishment candidate." Your definition - not so much..."Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before.
