This is the only valid cricism I see in this whole thread. Anyone who spouts out "family history" as if it were fact is asking for trouble.

My "family history" claims we are descended from the Hapsburgs. I give this about a 1% chance of being true.

I'm sure plenty of chambermaids have delivered descendents of Hapsburgs.

After 8 years of Dubya and Company, you say this! Pathetic.

We're gonna tear the fraud known as Obama to tiny little pieces. After it's all done, people will remember the swiftboat vets as being very polite.
Indeed, I see from Gramps' thread it has already begun. Scumbags.

Hey, Republicans don't distort the truth. They flat out invent it.

And despite all my comments I like Obama. Unfortunately he's a little too far out on the left for me and the Republicans actually put up a candidate that doesn't make me ill.
And this is the true danger of Obama. Rah, by the way, this isn't an attack on you, I just saw your post and wanted to make this point.

Obama isn't "a little further to the left" than many Republicans - as in, he's not "sorta" liberal. He is in actuality the most liberal Senator around. Period. Ted Kennedy might come close to him, but Obama, based on his voting record, is the furthest left Senator in the Senate.

Why is this a problem? Well, Obama has somehow managed to convince millions of people - moderate Democrats who have much more in common with McCain, moderate Republicans who might swing to a Democrat based on personality or some other "X" factor, etc. - that he is a consensus candidate for change, and that his policies and beliefs mirror mainstream America.

I'm sorry, but that just isn't true. Look at his record. To relate this to the OP, his deliberate attempt to pander to war veterans (and Jews, although they typically vote Dem anyway) by giving us, at best, a family yarn that he never bothered to research, and at worst, a deliberate spin on a family story to make sure the group he was pandering to got his point, the truth be damned, is just another example of the sales job he is trying to pull on the American people.

And no, Ramo, I'm not that worried about Obama. Most polls show Hillary being a much stronger candidate - currently, most polls I see show Hillary winning, while they also show Obama either losing to McCain, or being neck and neck with him. Obama's basically a left-wing clown with a great personality. If you're a moderate who wants to support a Democrat, then support Hillary. Sure, her personality is ****, but at least she is much closer to your views than is Obama.

Eh, the main reason why I'm willing to support him over Hillary or McCain is largely due to a few select issues where his ideals are in accord with mine, or his behavior suggests that they are quite similar.

Namely, things like Net Neutrality, or his remarks (by and large) on GLBT issues. Or support for behavioral economics.

                            Does Obama support gay marriage?
                            Does Obama support universal healthcare?
Does Obama support immediate withdrawl from Iraq?
Does Obama support demilitarization and using the money to fund health care / education domestically?

For all of your fear mongering about him being an insanely left-wing politician, he's decidedly mild.

Those points are not the differenciation between being left and being insanely left. Both groups will agree on these.

Except #4 were if taken to the extreme, borders on insanely left.

I call my great uncles, Uncle. It's just how it's often done. And before he died, I had a bit of contact with one (the other having been murdered by a German mob during the war).
