It's not bad, I take it in twice a year...winter/summer tire change, oil change, lube, etc.

Why do people always make car analogies when talking about software?

'cause they expect them to work like cars or toasters.

Not really. People just expect new things to work properly.

Yeah, I expect a product to be finished when it is put on the market. Software companies are notoriously bad for releasing unfinished product.

So why do people seem genuinely shocked/ surprised/ upset time after time when a game needs to be patched?? Its just the nature of the beast. Nobody uses car/ software analogies to ask why cars rust but software doesn't.

Cars don't rust the moment you drive off of the lot.
Compare whatever you want to Firaxis. All you'll end up doing is reinforcing the point that they suck.

I don't mind that games have to be patched, I'm thankful that good companies have after sales care for their reputation and my enjoyment of their products. What pisses me off is when they ask people to test their products, and when they don't agree with the testers opinion or prediction just ignore them, then don't even reimburse them by giving them the product for free.

Which is why I think that Firaxis is just a big peice of **** right now. They had it, then when 2K came in they just bent over and did as they were told from a group that can't make games or money to save their lives.

So its not Firaxis in particular we're having a pop at? Seems to me Ashers been given a pretty easy work a round to solve his problem???

But what do I know? I even liked Civ3....;O)

Soren listened to the testers more than any game developer I've ever known. They should have kept him.

The workaround is to disable one of the new features in the product I (theoretically) bought?
