  • Why do you care if people who are borderline gay decide to be gay or not? The government has absolutely no interest or power in that, and any court in the country - even in Georgia - would support that...

Ahahahaha yeah I'm such a big racist for thinking we need to control world population. Wow, Ben, you're really grasping at straws here.

Many of the same people approve of the same things. If you can draw an inference that because many Christians oppose gay marriage, that their Christianity impacts their beliefs, then I can return the favour. For sure.
Except that there is no connection between gay marriage and population growth, and a very obvious one between conservative Christianity and opposition to gay marriage. Please don't do me any more "favors."

Fine. I don't see marriage as an individual human right. Does that make me a bigot?
So what kind of right is it, Ben? You clearly think that some people should be enfranchised and others should not be. Semantics aside, if it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck...

You need to recognise that the argument is that marriage does not fit into the 'human rights' argument, because there are significant differences. It's not an individual right. Your life is not impaired in any way if you choose not to get married. You require consent from another person in order to get married.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights begs to differ. Marriage is a commonly understood part of the "human rights" argument. You need to read up on modern understandings of human rights!
        Lime roots and treachery!

You can answer for both yes and no.

And here's another: Suppose my best friend and I decide to get married (he's a guy). For the record, we're both straight. We have both successfully brought new life into this world. He's divorced, I've never married (close, tho! ). I can guarantee not only will we never sleep together, we'll keep bangin' on women.

Would you support this decision? Why or why not?

          • I'm such a big racist for thinking we need to control world population.
How do you propose to do that?

Except that there is no connection between gay marriage and population growth,
Obviously not. I did say between gay marriage and population control. I would be very surprised to find any person who agreed with gay marriage and did not also agree with population control.

Do you agree with me that the two views are most often found hand in hand with one another?

So what kind of right is it, Ben? You clearly think that some people should be enfranchised
I believe all people ought to be enfranchised. The right to vote is an individual right.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights
            (1) Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family. They are entitled to equal rights as to marriage, during marriage and at its dissolution.
So how does this support your argument? In fact, it rejects your argument here. You cannot appeal to the code and at the same time say that it says something which it does not.

            • You can answer for both yes and no.
If no, it would depend on the reason given.

If yes, I would consider that to be a very poor reason, no different then if she were to fall in love with another man.

And here's another: Suppose my best friend and I decide to get married (he's a guy). For the record, we're both straight. We have both successfully brought new life into this world. I would wholeheartedly support you and any others in their quest to obtain marriage benefits in this manner here in Canada.

Why? Because I believe the status quo is untenable.

              • Duh! What you bolded there BK says that men and women both have right to marry but that bolded part does not say the marriage has to be BETWEEN a man and a woman. You can read that to also include that men and women have right to marry, regardless if they're straight or gay and that one can marry someone of same gender.

The right, btw insists upon consent which is unique among all the other rights enumerated. Which confirms my argument that it doesn't belong there.

It does not mention that Mr. Fun. Does it explicitly say "men and men, etc. No it says men and women. Sorry. I can't change the words to say what it does not.

Wow, open minds here. I offer an explanation, and rather then rational discussion, I get the response "why should they care?"

I'm sorry, you asked, I gave you one. If you don't like the explanation, then all I can say is I tried. It's not my job to explain things to people who are unwilling to accept viewpoints contrary to their own.

This settles it -- you have massive reading comprehension issues. You still can't read it properly even when people point it out to you.

Most of us, yes. There's still the odd close-minded bigot around these parts that think gays shouldn't be allowed to marry eachother.

The bolded part you quoted does not mean that marriage had to be defined ONLY between a man and a woman. It means that both, men and women, have equal rights to choose whom they want to marry -- that means marrying a person of opposite gender, or person of same gender.

Again, you fail at reading comprehension -- this time to the post criticizing your reading comprehension..

The problem is the quote you quoted doesn't say marriage can only be between men and women. It just says both men and women should be allowed to marry, it doesn't specify who they are married to.

This could mean a bunch of things.

                                1. You are closeminded, and even if I have an open mind, you percieve my disagreement to be closeminded on my part.

                                2. You are close minded, and correctly percieve me to be closeminded, without recognising your own state.

                                3. You are open minded, and correctly perceive me to be closeminded.

Why is 3 more likely then 1 or 2?
