I did read the thread, and he has pointed out multiple times that Jim Crow lasted up until the 1960s, and thus is well with in the life spans of many people. Maybe you should effing read them.

The part that is particularly racist, is Buchanan's "positive" slant on slavery, and how he insinuated that slavery was a good thing in that it brought Africans to America.

No, he didn't put a positive slant on slavery. I make this same point all the time, and the point isn't that slavery was OK, the point is that blacks TODAY are better off than they would be in a world where their ancestors were not enslaved and brought to America. It's a difficult to prove counterfactual, but it's also difficult to see how an average black person could be better off living in Africa than living here. That's the point Buchanan's making.

As for the crime statistics, if your objection is that it isn't about race, but rather about poor people, then fine. Apply that to both sides and tell Obama to stop talking about race, and instead focus on poverty.

With that said, the education statistics are, AFAIK, correct. Poor white kids living in cities have much higher graduation rates, test scores, etc., than black kids in a similar situation. Why, I don't know. I don't think it's because black kids are stupider. I do think part of it is the existence of a "victim mentality" in much of the poor urban black community that perpetuates this, and Obama is doing nothing to curb this mentality.
