Driving a bus definitely takes skill, and is a serious responsibility. A bad bus driver can really make a difference, death-toll wise.

Flipping a burger a McDonalds is a skill job. If you undercook that meat, you can make a big difference, death-toll wise...

For busses, you're talking about busses with automatic transmissions. The laws in Ontario force all other drivers to yield to the busses. The busses basically signal and start turning and everyone else has to get out of the way.

Sorry, but telling me this is a skilled occupation is bull****.

Here it's usually "unskilled" when you can come and start working after some kind of short briefing, without any further qualification. As a bus driver, you probably have to go through some qualification to get a special license for driving a bus. Simple driving license probably doesn't allow you to "pilot" a bus, just like it doesn't allow you to drive a tank or 20ton truck...

Indeed. And getting a bus license takes a bit of an effort, from what I gather. And driving a bus takes serious concentration, at least in France. I know traffic is better organised in North America, but I strongly doubt driving a bus is just some boring automatism in Toronto just as anywhere else.

As I said, it depends on your standards. Basically anyone can spend a day or two and get tested for bus driving. This is all included and done by the TTC.

I considered skilled trades to be those requiring a university degree or community college diploma, or a trade with an apprenticeship program, etc.

They are bull**** artists, that is definitely a skill.

But if I had my way...they wouldn't qualify as a university degree.

But just think about how much skill that takes. Agathon not only managed to get an undergrad, but then a masters and PhD in filosofy. That takes mad skills, given his obvious intellectual shortcomings.
