Yeah, the rebel look probably goes over better amongst blogger chicks than the serious business look.

The post has to fill the pages somehow, and a guy living on noodles and $8000 with a 12 year old chip on his shoulder about a convenience store's youth rules is enough to fit the bill.

Nice story Ozzy... While I don't agree with you on some of your positions, it sure is good to see somebody attempting to change things. At least you fight for what you believe in. Thats FAR more than some people can say...
True. But let's get real here.

Ozzy, I like you as a person, but this whole deal just puts me off even more. A picture like that, and everything that it says to me, just I don't understand.

The message has gone from being about the kids to being about you I'm afraid. I know people who have put their heart and soul into changing things for the better, and they would be disgusted by this stunt.

Good luck with the publicity Ozzy, just don't lose sight of why you did this in the first place.

OH KENOBI get off it. The guy works for very little money for 10 years for something he believes in. The fact that he had a dippy photographer and a bad staff writer from the post (redundancy) doesn't change that or reflect on him in any way. Perhaps you should eat your words and bite down on my darksaber

                          Wow.

Just when I'm on the verge of putting you on my ignore list you say something very insightful and very true and defend me against someone who generally I like and I get along with well. I am dumbfounded.

But yea Ben, that was a pretty assholish thing to say. Wiglaf is completely correct. The Post contacted me initially (I didn't seek it out) to run a feature article about the organization and the cause itself. I spoke at length with the reporter about the ins and outs of our philosophy and the structure of our organization and our hopes, aspirations and history. Gave him some real grade A material.

Then like a month later he informs me that he has a new boss who doesn't really care much for the story, or the angle of it, and decides to change the focus from the cause to me personally. And at that point he asks to talk to my parents and friends (instead of relevant people in the organization) and makes it this ridiculous profile piece that mentions bs like ramen noodles and what posters I have up in my bedroom. Plus the size of the article was slashed significantly.

The more ridiculous aspects of the article are partly why I refrained from posting it here on poly in the first place.

So yea, Wiggy is completely correct. The media sucks sometimes. Even so, it is ridiculously prominent coverage. A lengthy, front page article in the Style section in one of the world's most influential papers. So despite all the flaws, this is a very proud achievement for me, my cause, and for everyone who knows me. Posting this here I sought to include y'all in the list of 'everyone who knows me' to share in this accomplishment. I wasn't really posting it to spark a debate (another reason I held off posting it). So thanks Donegeal and Ming for the support.

Yes I was being an ass primarily because I absolutely despise with every ounce of my being the staff of the washington post. Apologies.
