Oooh, looks like I was wrong, some people will get sent on the slow boat to China, probably not many though (no link, all info in Korean).

Already the Chinese blogs are getting pissy about Korea, we'll see how this develops.

      • Chinese responce:

On Sunday, as the torch paraded through South Korea, it was thousands of Chinese students who were blamed for instigating violence against a smaller number of South Korean demonstrators.

The skirmishes have infuriated Korean officials, who said the incident had harmed national pride -- the same complaint made by the Chinese. Korean officials have promised to deport any students involved in the disturbances, which left several people injured.

In her news conference on Tuesday, Ms. Yu, the Chinese government spokeswoman, defended the Chinese students, saying they were simply upholding the Olympic spirit.

"As to the disruptions and sabotage by the separatist forces, some students upholding justice came out to safeguard the dignity of the torch -- I believe that’s natural," she said.
Lovely, now throwing rocks at people is justice. Says a lot about the morality of the CCP.

Shouldn't be toohard since they were kind enough to pose forthe camera. Especially that one guy begging the cop to start wailing on him.

Forget the slow boat, they should make it a leaky boat.

I was expecting a big response from Korea. True, they don't really care about Tibet and such. But run over one of them with a tank and you won't hear the end of it.

              • I cant be @$$ed with reading the whole thread, but the USA has little room to say a lot with the way our government has treated minorities and continues to.

No, not the worse but just how many few short years ago was kent State?

Or the deep south with lynchings due to race?

Just sharing, China has a lot of things not the best record in regards to human rights violations, but they are certainly not alone.

Thank you and just to clarify my point, it was not that long ago we as a country didnt handle picketing against a government action.

Sad and I am ashamed at how America handles these types of situations.

However, i still love America just wouldnt want any Political leader getting so high on the soapbox they may have a hard fall when trying to defend America's handling of Human Rights.

How did America handle the internment camps with U S Citizens of Japanese descent?

Just dont want our country thinking they are so pure they must forget how it handled these situations.

I do not, for the record, support China's handling of these issues, merely stating we dont have a lot of room to talk, kinda like a log in the eye storyline...

But for those of us who lived during it, it was a very short time ago sir.

I'll spare everyone the pain of reading my "walls of text" responses, and just say that I agree with Grandpa Troll.

The West has gone through modernization and made mistakes and learned from them. China's doing the same, really really fast and breakneck, and it needs to learn from the West as it makes its mistakes as well.

This works best when both sides are rationalist, not nationalist.

Germanos, just asking, do you know why the flag is in that position?

It is very possible someone could do this by mistake but it actually has a very defined reason.

                            • Here is the best way to define an upside down flag:

Is it okay to display the flag upside down to protest the war?
The Flag Code [see below] states, "The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property." It is an unreasonable stretch to argue that the political purposes constitute "dire distress." We recommend that people who wish to express their political views find a way to do so that is respectful of the flag. Remember that to some the flag represents the government of the US and its policies; but it also represents the promise as yet unfulfilled of the Declaration, it represents our freedom of speech, our freedom to practice or not practice religion as we choose, it represents American values, it represents one nation in its glory, it represents hope for a better future, and importantly it represents the sacrifices made in all generations to protect our freedoms.

                              • I learned in boyscouts... it's proper to burn the flag if it has been disrespected. Like being allowed to touch the ground...

So perhaps if it has been wrongfully flown upside down to make a political statement it would be best if it were set on fire ASAP.
