Do you study filosofy in school?
I'll make it easy for you. I'm just saying one mission is a lot more worthwhile than the other. What does this have to do with Euros?

If some of the largest members of the Alliance don't consider the mission worth contributing to in a meaningful fashion, how worthwhile can the Alliance consider the mission?I make no bones about my moral support for [terrorist] organizations. - chegitz guevara

Let's see...what is NATO doing in Afghanistan? Or was the question, What is the USA doing of substance in Adghanistan?
Okay...
Fighting the Taliban...which was a sponsor government for Al-Qeada...which killed 3000 Americans on 9/11.
Keeping women from being shot in the back of the head at the stadium for showing their face in public
Allowing women to get an education
Keeping terrorist from having open and well supplied training camps
Basically, it comes down to protecting the people of the United States (and other "evil" western nations) from the horror of being slaughtered...not to mention trying to improve the quality of life of the Afghan people...
As for European participation...reread the treaty."I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you're not patriotic. We should stand up and say we are Americans and we have a right to debate and disagree with any administration." - Hillary Clinton, 2003

He also said a battalion of extra French troops would be deployed to Afghanistan, easing fears of a crisis within the Western coalition there.
The US says the French move, expected to involve up to 1,000 extra soldiers, will free up some of its troops to move to southern Afghanistan, where Canada had demanded Nato reinforcements be sent.

The French troops are going to the east, not the south where combat troops are required. Americans (one of the nations of the alliance that will fight) can then move to the south to help fight."I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure." - Clarence Darrow

Here's a link to a Google Video version of a BBC documentary on the rise of Islamism specifically in Afghanistan and how it was the whole mess in that country came about. As usual the BBC is right on the money including criticism of the Reagan administration and how many of the same people ended up in the Bush administration making the same mistakes again. Truly great stuff from the BBC.

Georgia was never a voluntary ally of Russia. Nowadays their breakaway parts are supported by Russia so it's only natural they'd seek support from the outside.
Ukraine is split in half between a pro-Russia and a pro-Western part.
Why an expansion of Nato to the east would be so sensible ATM is beyond me. Must seem like real strong to some Americans, but if you live in Europe, next to Russia, it's hard to see much point in showing muscle to some easily irritable neighbour of yours.(\__/)

Care to elaborate?
Are you implying Russia is on an evil expansionist run as Germany was at the time? Do you believe that "not expanding deeply into the backyard of your neighbour" is the same as "appeasing an aggressive neighbour"?
Maybe I'm not getting the comparison well...
