Well, like politicians, computer companies have toolish fans who are shocked at any legitimate criticism of the object of their adulation.

It's like rooting for a sports team, except really lame.

People who use the word adulation

If you paid any attention to this thread, I'm not supporting Apple's decision but pointing out Asher's hypocrisy.

You don't get it snoop. There are some Polytards whose entire sense of self worth rests on attributing evil to Apple Inc. Nothing any rational person can say will sway them, because they lack human reason.

Honestly, I can't recall ever meeting thicker people than some of the troglodytes that post opinions on this site.

I'm sure the feeling is mutual Aggie. You haven't really portrayed yourself as the voice of reason here.

            There's nothing hypocritical here.

Support MS bundling IE with Windows: Yes.
Support Apple bundling Safari with OSX: Yes.

Critical of Apple forcing new browser software out to iTunes user as "update": Yes
Would I be critical of MS forcing new messaging software out to Mac Office users as part of "Microsoft Update": Yes

FOR THE LAST TIME it's offered as a choice, please stop saying it is forced. It is being offered a little surreptitiously, and by your own admission will only fool novice computer users who probably have virus laden computers anyway.

However, if someone is so foolish that they would download install and use Safari without skipping a beat, then surely they are not going to understand the benefits of one browser e.g. firefox over another one..and they will assume IE, which came built in, is the best for the job.

If you want to criticize Apple, therefore you have to also prefer that OS's ship with no bias towards one exclusive browser. The only sensible thing is to ship with multiple browsers and a nice pop-up telling people they are different.

A fair number of people use iTunes, and are pissed that they accidentally installed Safari as well.

Why bother, when some of the people you are dealing with are so thick they can't tell the difference between rationality and irrationality? This thread is an obvious example. Wiglaf has actually been correct through most of it, and the discussion is simply going nowhere.

Some posters are suffering from obvious mental illnesses as well. If I want to talk seriously about tech, I go to Slashdot, where dickheads quickly get moderated into oblivion. I must suck so much I've had my karma maxed out there for years.

It's impossible to have a sensible and polite discussion about technology topics on this site because certain posters spam threads with endless bull****. The fact that they've been consistently wrong for years doesn't seem to sway anyone. You might want to go back to threads when those people aren't here. You'd be surprised how civil and logical discussion can be in their absence.

It used to be just tech threads. Now Oerdin can't contribute to a thread without a bunch of other dicks spamming that up as well. No wonder I rarely visit this place any more.

Not to contradict my previous post but... So Freaking What!?!!? It's not malware. Uninstall it, or just don't use it. Or be intelligent enough to actually read the software update popup before clicking OK. Is that really so hard???

But re this thread, what I see is a handful of people taking it upon themselves to be pissed on behalf of those iTunes users, since it allows them a bonus opportunity to air their Apple hate.

Ooooh, aren't you special - not. (I have maxed out Karma there too, and would give even odds that Asher does.)

Slashdot is only useful or interesting when reporting about things no one is partisan about (like cool new science or tech) - on any other topic (copyright/patents, Microsoft/Apple/Linux, US politics, evolution) it's completely repetitive and mostly inane. The moderation system just promotes extremely boring groupthink in those stories.

Oerdin deserves almost every bit of criticism he gets. (And I'm not one of the ones criticising him - try and find the last time I responded to one of his posts...)

Yeah, of course. Someone ask Agathon what his /. account name is. I'll bet you I've existed there far longer than he has.
