  • And what good is an updater if it never checks for updates? That leaves you exposed to security vulnerabilities...
You can ignore the updates you don't want, and leave auto checking on.

Or, if you simply do not know how to ignore things or are against it on principle, you can check manually.

There's absolutely no reason to whine here, they give you both options.

    • I tried right-clicking on them to ignore -- as every other updater works -- and it wasn't an option.

      • Windows Update doesn't work like that, perhaps you hit your head recently and have become delusional.

        • Macs have never been intuitive. Thanks though Wiggy. I'll try that.

          • Macs are the most intuitive thing since religion, whereas it takes like 5 steps to plug in a PC out of the box, even a toddler can hook up an iMac

This idea that it's easy to right click updates in Windows Update, is just retarded, on XP it's a web based updater as well which means Asher is doubly wrong.

            • Yup, as intuitive as trashing your hard drive.

              • You're the one who complains on Apolyton rather than check preferences to see if maybe -- just maybe -- there's a setting to turn off auto-check for updates. Or a setting to ignore persistent updates. You are not the best judge of intuitive.

You lie like an Apolyton administrator.

So it is intuitive to store a preference under the label of "Tools"?

MS' implementation is clearly more intuitive.

                    • That's under Vista, not XP. Please check your facts and re-read my posts before going all anal on me.

XP has no Windows Update app, it has a website.

I was referring to application update software.

So I take that as a concession.

DON'T TELL ME TO CHECK ANYTHING. THE ONLY THING THAT NEEDS CHECKING IS YOUR SKILLS, I right click windows update update and get this:

                            OPEN
                            SAVE LINK
                            COPY LINK LOCATION

ALL OF THAT IT DIDN'T SAY HIDE THE UPDATE OR IGNORE IT BECAUSE IT WAS IN BROWSER WINDOW

What is the bottom line, the sub total is this: The most popular operating system on the planet, designed by Microsofiot, has an UPDATER that is NOT RESPONSIVE TO RIGHT CLICKS. NOT RESPONSE. RIGHT CLICKS. NOTHING THERE.

So for you to FIRST LIE AND SAY THERE IS NOTHING RIGHT CLICKY INTUITIVE ABOUT APPLE SOFTWARE UPDATOR, AS A N ASS SAVING MANEUVER AFTER YOUR LIE WAS CALLED OUT UPON, IS SIMPLY HYPOCRITICAL

                            BECAUSE

MICROSOFFGT DID THE S-A-M-E THI-NG AND ST ILL DOES.

Don't tell me they can't just update their updating software for XP and make it not browser based because they can sister.

I'm having had enough with DaShi and Taiwan talking to me about CONESSSIONS. The whole island of Taiwan is a massive concession to China and pretty soon it will be nuked anyway so responding to him would be pointess.

Actually Xp does have an application for that, but I do have the latest version of XP and thus I might have been put in later on.

Onto the issue. It is an issue of trust that Apple is breaking. You use an update system to update programs you already have, not to install new programs. If you have that program, then nothing is wrong with that, but since this is ia "forced" dowload, since I like most people generally just update, since I do want to have the latest and most secure program I can have. so this breaks the trust of the consumer which is the most important thing in any business. Since I don't use Itunes, i am a bit annoyed that I get it with Quicktime, which is the program that I wanted, so I might do what Asher did and and remove the program, since I really don't want iTunes.

@Wiglaf, just tone it down, we dot not need to see ALLCAPS ALL THE TIME. Also the difference betwen what M$ is doing and Apple is that M$ is updating programs that you already have whereas Apple is putting a new program via an "update". That is just bad practice and might actually cost Apple, since consumers might not be forgiving of this episode.
