You can certainly get furnished apartments, but you probably won't find them on craigslist. Aren't there services that do apartments for corporate types who are doing what Pekka's doing, staying for a short time?

Either way, check into one of the major apartment leasing agencies, i'm sure they can help you out.

I don't know yet. Perhaps soon, perhaps never.

I'm sick and tired of this crap with communication. Folks are like OK your trip just got shortened to 4 months. An hour after it's 3 months. During the same day it's 5 months. Now it's 6 months again. You know, it is my life and I would like to know about it since everyone else does.

It seems like they'll find a place for me. Sucks again. It's likely to be in Lindbergh. Any info on that? I have no idea about it.

Lindbergh is in Buckhead. It's an area with a lot of restaurants and bars not too far away. Lindbergh is the name of the MARTA station on Lindbergh & Piedmont. So easy access to the train.

Ah thanks. So anyway it's supposed to be close to that MARTA station. So Buckhead it'll be. How's Buckhead, does it suck? It sucks, doesn't it?

Buckhead is nice. Lots of restaurants, bars, clubs, etc. The major malls are in Buckhead (Lenox and Phipps) and lots of the fancy shopping. It isn't as trendy as Midtown or Little Five Points or East Atlanta, but is undoubtably the most well known Atlanta neighborhood.

Basically, there is tons to do in Buckhead.

Yes, I was told that it was restaurants and malls, so shopping should be cool (though I don't have money, then again US is cheap-o-land)... so but there's no grocery stores, as in if I want to actually buy real food, then I'm out of luck. But then again, can't have everything and then again it looks like I can't choose so much after all but it will be picked for me and I can just say OK or not OK based on more generic categories.

Ah... you will probably need a car for groceries. Or someone to drive you . They probably exist in Buckhead, I'm just not sure where (since I've never lived in Buckhead... I do know where the grocery stores are in the Emory area though ).

How screwed up is your city for not having grocery stores everywhere? So you need a car, or other transport method? If malls, then why aren't there any grocery stores inisde of them? You guys are weird and screwed up. OOOH why would we need like real food? NO let's have everything else, except real food. Yaaaah sounds gooood to meeeeee.

It's because everyone has cars. Atlanta is, first and foremost, a car city. Hell, the US is a car country. I don't think I've ever walked to a grocery store and walked back home in my life (with hotels, sure, but not homes/apartments).

No malls have grocery stores in them, what wierd country are you from?

I live in a country where you can always buy groceries . Sounds to me like you live in Africa.

Sounds like Pekka will have a smashing time.

They definitely should have put you in Midtown. Buckhead's not urban enough.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

A major grocery store can often be found at our malls. Usually one of the "anchor" stores for the mall.

Typically US cities don't have many large grocery stores ('supermarket') in the urban centers, because land is too expensive for the store compared to the profits they make off of food (Food's much cheaper here than in Europe, isn't it?). Hence you have the 'corner store' and/or drug store (in Chicago this would be White Hen, Walgreens, CVS, or 7-11 in the true center, and elsewhere in the city you have little random privately owned stores (your stereotypical immigrant-owned store, ie, but not always immigrant-owned). There you can get basic stuff (bread, milk, soup, stuff like that), usually for somewhat more than the supermarket (but at the smaller privately owned stores, often not that much more, but perhaps lower quality).

Then you go to the supermarket which is a bigger distance away for more specialty stuff or for large quantities; you can generally bum a ride from a friend, or even just take a cab, if you do this in bulk only once every few months. Just use the corner store for the stuff you need frequently
