    You should try the 25 year old Glenmorangie. I bought a bottle for my dads 60th, and it is probably the best alcoholic drink I've ever tasted Though if you thought the 18 year ood was expensive I doubt you'll decide to buy the 25 year old except to keep it for special occasions.

            If you didn't like Laphroaig, avoid Lagavulin. You're probably best off avoiding Caol Ila too, although that's less aggressive. To be honest, I'm quite surprised you liked Talisker is Laphroaig was a problem, although Talisker isn't as hardcore.
            Talisker is definitely...earthier and stronger...compared to the others but it still isn't overwhelming for me. Laphroaig was just brutal.

            It's also woth investigating vatted malts. They're blends that only use single malts, rather than the cheaper blended varieties. There's a genuinely brilliant non-chillfiltered one from Skye called Poit Dubh, and it's a match for just about any single malt on pure taste terms. Vatted malts are quite rare, though- they get unfairly confused with blended whisky.

                Laphroaig Quartercask. The longer barrelling in smaller casks results in a much greater wood exposure and a more complex taste.
                Maybe if it were free I'd give it a shot. Currently all I can taste with Laphroaig is iodine, even if it is hiding something pleasant underneath that...I think my palate isn't experienced enough to taste anything else.

                    • I'm going to be honest here, I've never actually tasted squirrel piss. I just assumed it would be strong and unpalatable. And it's no use insulting American beer to me; I don't drink any beer, and I know the American stuff is often regarded as inferior among those who do.

                              • It would have to be very cold water and a lot of it! You only put a small amount of water in and even if it's cold the whisky and ambient temperature will warm it up quickly enough.
